Headband Wigs Are Trending Like Crazy & Here Are My Favorites

The ’70s fashion hair accessory is back—with a modern update. If you often find yourself falling into a rabbit hole on Instagram watching wig videos, you’ve probably seen so-called headband wigs exploding all over your timeline. This type of unit, sometimes referred to as a headband half wig, is made with a piece of material at the wig’s base that mimics a headband.

Headband wigs offer an easy-to-wear option that requires nothing more than your natural hair being slicked back or braided down under. If you’re not a pro at applying wigs, headband wigs are a great option. Not only does it not require any combs, clips or glue, but it also tends to look more natural than lace wigs.

While headband wigs may have seemed to appear out of thin air, making it even harder to decide which type of wig is suited for your needs, it was, in fact, a response to lace production shortages during the beginning of the pandemic. Wig-wearers were having trouble finding quality lace wigs early during the pandemic. Plus, spending more time indoors is all the more reason to find lower maintenance alternatives to help you slay at home.

Headband wigs may have been a response to a temporary hiccup in the wig industry, but the ease of application has won over wig-wearers ranging from novice to expert. It’s safe to say that headband wigs aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. In case you need some help venturing off into the wonderful world, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite wig units to guide you through the process.

Our mission at STYLECASTER is to bring style to the people, and we only feature products we think you’ll love as much as we do. Please note that if you purchase something by clicking on a link within this story, we may receive a small commission of the sale.

3 Easy Ways to Beat Divorce Loneliness When You’re on Facebook

divorce loneliness facebook

We’ve all been there. You pour a glass of wine after a long day, and all you want to do is some mindless scrolling on Facebook to give yourself a mental break.

But the exact opposite happens. The first thing on your newsreel is a picture of flowers that your high school acquaintance Janine is bragging about. The flowers are beautiful, and she’s put the caption, “35 years strong, married to my best friend.”

And just like that, your quick distraction has made you feel lonely because you are divorced at 50 and single. It makes you feel angry. Jealous. And now you’re frustrated because you’re wondering why everybody has somebody but you.

Stupid Facebook!

When you start feeling lonely and left out, especially after a divorce, there are three simple things you can do to get your mindset back on track that will pull you out of that Facebook divorce loneliness pit.

Unfollow the People Whose Posts Make You Feel Terrible

It’s as simple as that. If there is a woman who constantly posts things like “the ‘I love my husband’ challenge” or #myhusbandismylife or #luckiestwifeintheworld – simply mute or unfollow her.

No, you don’t have to block her if you don’t want to. But if her stuff is constantly popping up on your newsreel, and you’d rather see your cousin Randy’s newest conspiracy post, then you *know* it’s time to unfollow her.

If You Can’t Mute Because You’re Addicted, Then Become an Anthropologist

Sometimes it’s impossible to mute because it’s like you’re addicted to seeing those posts. When you’re lonely and bored, it can be hard to unfollow someone. Because those feelings at least make you feel alive. Especially with Covid still going on, and we’re stuck at home.

So, if you choose not to unfollow, become an anthropologist instead. When you’re feeling triggered and jealous, start asking yourself the following questions:

What is the other 90% of the story that this #blessed Facebook post *isn’t* telling me? Is it because the poster is lonely too? Is it because she’s afraid of divorce after 50? Is it because she’s tired of her own cousin’s conspiracy theory posts?

When you remove your own feelings from a Facebook post that makes you feel lonely after divorce, you’ll start to realize that:

#1 It’s not about you and your divorce and that Janine isn’t trying to rub it in anybody’s face.

#2 Everybody is just trying to do the best they can.

#3 The people who seem to brag are probably feeling as lonely as you, even if they’re not divorced, but they’re just expressing it differently.

If All Else Fails, Set a Time Limit, Then Go Do Something Else

If you can’t stop reading those posts, at least set a timer on your phone. Once the buzzer rings after 15 minutes, your time is up. No more hate-scrolling. No more judging yourself because nobody sent you flowers. No more feeling sorry for yourself because you’re currently single, and no more resentment of others.

And once the time is up, don’t ignore it and over-ride the warning. Put your phone down and go do something joyful or productive. Like finding a new recipe to try. Or starting to plan your first trip after Covid. Or literally any other thing that isn’t going to make you feel bad.

While navigating Facebook can feel like a minefield when you’re divorced and feeling lonely, these proactive steps can help lift some of that burden off you so you can focus on putting yourself first.

6 Ways Being 60 Takes You Back to the 60s

60s

There’s a lot to love about being in your 60s. And, if you are 60, you may remember the 1960s. That may depend on how many mind-altering experiences you had in the 1960s, however.

These two “60s” have a great deal in common, some good, some not so much. Here are 6 ways my 60s are like the 60s.

Shoes

In the 60s, people began wearing sandals as no time before. They were fashionable and indicated a certain freewheeling spirit in the wearer.

I recall my mother being a bit shocked by the unorthodox choice of exposing one’s feet in polite society, as opposed to on a beach.

In our 60s, we’re still wearing sandals. But, now they’re probably Birkenstocks, and it likely indicates a certain inability to wear less comfortable shoes or even the presence of a bunion!

Drugs

Marijuana is back! In the 60s, some of us indulged in a bit of recreational herb intake. In our 60s, some of us are indulging still, or again, or maybe even for the first time.

Okay, it’s not so much recreational as medicinal and maybe we have an actual prescription for it and maybe it’s now obtained legally but still, the herb hasn’t changed much. Well, then again maybe it has.

You may not be aware of this but pot can now be ordered off a menu. Got a headache? There’s a pot to make it go away. Don’t want to be paranoid later? This herb will ease you into tomorrow. Want a giddy high or a mellower buzz? There’s a bud for you.

Also, in the 60s, “the pill” was introduced and it became a lot easier to have sex without worrying about pregnancy. In our 60s, some still use a pill to make it easier to have sex but we’re still not worried about pregnancy.

Music

In the 60s, we enjoyed watching Mick Jagger move like… well, like Jagger. In our 60s we can still enjoy watching Jagger move – once we get over the shock of the fact that Jagger is in his 70s!. And, some of us can still move like… well almost like Jagger.

In the 60s we watched as the Beatles embraced meditation and created music to match their newfound enlightenment.

In our 60s, we’re listening to New Age music while we’re meditating and doing yoga and we’re finding our own way to enlightenment. But, from time to time, we still enjoy a good protest song.

Peace

In the 60s, people the world over railed against fighting unwinnable wars. In our 60s, many still rage against that machine, but now we do it by signing online petitions and donating to causes that match our peacenik sensibilities.

We also teach our grandchildren to believe in the possibility of peace because we still want so badly for that to happen.

Ageism

In the 60s, we believed we shouldn’t trust anyone over the age of 30. I remember being bereft when my beloved Bob Dylan turned 30, and I worried I’d have to find another musical genius to listen to obsessively.

In our 60s, we wonder how we ever listened to Dylan obsessively (I mean have you heard that voice?) and know for a fact we can’t take seriously anyone under the age of 30. When I say to a young person, “I have shoes older than you are,” I’m not even kidding.

Caring

In the 60s, we all gave a damn about the world. So much so, we thought we could actually change it so we marched, we volunteered, we sang, we studied, we voted, and all the while we wore flowers in our hair to show our allegiance to the planet.

In our 60s, we still pretty much do all of those things. We may not be trying to change the world anymore but we intend to make a difference. And a nice gardenia always looks good in the hair… even when the hair is silver.

Do you have a favorite recollection of the 60s? Share your thoughts on what’s in common between the 60s and the life in our 60s, or maybe not so much? Join the conversation in the comments below and share this article to keep the conversation going.

Whitney Rose’s Tan Polka Dot Top on Watch What Happens Live

Watch What Happens Live Fashion

Whitney Rose was pretty in polka dots last night on Watch What Happens Live in her puff sleeve top. It was a fun episode, as she an Gina Kirschenheiter vibed well and both gave some good BTS info.

On thing that really surprised me was that when Andy Cohen asked Whitney what she thought of her first reunion she said she loved it. I’ve never heard that answer in the history of Housewives—I didn’t even think they were allowed to say that.  But one thing we do know we are allowed to say is that we totally love Whitney’s top.
