TikTok Went Nuts Over This Three-Step Routine for the Glowiest Skin Ever

It used to be that YouTube makeup tutorials made certain beauty products blow up. Not anymore. Now, TikTok drives major sales for brands, especially when it’s an honest, not-sponsored review with more than two million likes. The TikTok Glow Recipe trend is blowing up this week, thanks in part to three popular creators. At least, these are the three videos on my FYP that made me stop and say, whoa.

It seems the first to start the trend was creator @glamzilla, who posted a video in February responding to questions about how she gets her glow. “It’s the Glow Recipe dang toner, girl!” she says while pouring the Watermelon Glow PHA +BHA Pore-Tight Toner into her hands. “She a thick, thick toner.” She takes the product and applies it all over her face and neck. After letting it dry, she follows it up with the Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops. “This serum is formulated with niacinamide,” she says. “This is how I get that glow all of you have been asking about.”

It looks so good, TikToker @mikaylanogueira tried it, too, giving @glamzilla all the credit.  Mikayla adds the Innisfree Jeju Cherry Blossom Jelly Cream ($18.40 at Amazon) on top. The three together she says caused her foundation to go on the best it ever has.

Not one to stay away from a viral TikTok trend, @annaxsitar hit up Sephora to find the Glow Recipe favorites. “I think I love it,” she says about the results.

Ready to get your hands on these best-sellers? You probably shouldn’t wait too long. According to the rep from Glow Recipe, the brand saw a 600 percent spike in daily sales after these videos. That is no joke. Shop them all, below. And don’t forget to add the new Watermelon Glow Pink Dream Body Cream.

Our mission at STYLECASTER is to bring style to the people, and we only feature products we think you’ll love as much as we do. Please note that if you purchase something by clicking on a link within this story, we may receive a small commission of the sale.

An Ode to Women Over 60: Lean Into the Equality You Deserve

Women-After-60

Women are amazing creations! We have been mythologized, idealized, idolized, lionized, patronized, held up as paragons of virtues, and painted as fallen angels. That’s why I love being a woman and adore feeling the feminine deep inside myself. And I also revere what being a woman represents in mythology, psychology, and society.

It’s not just about the yin to the masculine yang, because we are all part feminine and masculine. It is that woman’s power resides in our connectivity.

Who Are We Really?

Women are nurturers by nature, and we possess nuanced abilities and awesome skills that reflect our intelligence and sensitivities. We often see beyond what resonates on the outside life and use our inside life – our passions and our dreams – to intuit and be mindful of our natural roles.

As women, we are quick to recognize our vulnerabilities, and we know that growth and transformation are necessary for reaching our human potential. We also know that in order to reach that potential, we must claim the high level of our well-being.

Where Do We Come from?

Women come from a place that primarily reflects our heart. We hear from our hearts, we listen with our hearts, and we take action from our hearts. We exceed ourselves as a gender because we are aware that our strength and courage come from a place that is forged by self-respect and grace.

I was raised by a feminist mother who had no idea that she was a feminist. Estelle was born in 1911. A year before her birth, the women’s movement began to have a voice under the leadership of Margaret Sanger. Eight years later, women got the vote, and my mother turned 17.

She went to work immediately after graduating high school and supported not only herself but also her mother. Although she married at 20, she never stopped empowering herself, she never once doubted her abilities, and she never retreated in the face of struggle, prejudice, or threat.

The women’s movement belonged to my mother, but she never had a notion to claim it because she leaned into the equality she deserved.

The first memory I have of my mother empowering herself was when she bought an automatic washing machine that had just arrived on the market. She proudly displayed it in the basement of our home. It was 1951, and the washboard was history.

My mother not only kept current with the latest modern conveniences, but also with advanced thinking and new ideas. A life-long learner, Estelle believed in personal fulfillment and the necessity of being creative.

Femininity vs Feminism

Can women gain equality and still wear flouncy skirts and be complimented by men on their perfume? Can women demand equal rights without becoming politically correct Americanized harpies? Can feminists be feminine?

According to my mother, women could be anything they wanted to be, and life would be exciting and abundant.

Because she was liberated early in life and later paid little attention to the women’s movement in the 70s, her mantra was: You can accomplish anything you want to do by proper planning, tenacity, and a little bit of luck.

My mother was a beautiful woman inside and out. She dressed like a million bucks, sewed her own clothes (she could have been a designer), and never went without makeup and a pair of stockings. From humble beginnings, she became a builder, and she was still going strong in her 90s.

From Clarity to Empowerment

Empowerment means equality. Before equality happens, we have to have a clear mind and a dedicated plan about the quality of our lives.

We are now 60 and beyond, and we have worked consistently and diligently and made enough to retire. We made personal choices that added value to our living experiences.

Maybe we saved part of our salaries and went on wonderful vacations. Or, if we didn’t like our work situation, we changed it up and started our own businesses. In essence, we spent decades creating our own status in society.

We empowered ourselves by using our ability to adapt to circumstances, a willingness to collaborate, the need to demonstrate accountability, always reminding ourselves that the heart was the center of our being. In this moment, we are living proof that the skills we hold dear gave us the equality we deserve.

What Is Your Role in Society Today?

Equal rights for women still remains an ongoing question and an ongoing issue, no matter the current global crises. For so many decades in the 20th century, women simply conformed to an idealized version of the male perception.

Part of what made feminism so successful was the way women in different situations developed their own variations and adapted to changes as our cultural norms expanded.

Gloria Steinem, the other face to the feminist movement in the 70s, said, “People don’t belong to people. I never put anyone in a cage.” I – and I’m sure every woman, too – want that to be true.

At 60 and beyond, we want to continue to be a success in our personal lives, to lean into the equality we deserve. Equality is not just important for our self-esteem, but it is crucial to achieving balance after 60.

Balance is built on knowledge of how every part of our life fits together – all our passions and our dreams integrated into a holistic structure that guides our well-being. Balance keeps us motivated and more mindful about our individual needs and the ability to care for the emotional concerns of others.

Women are clearly amazing creations.

How Will You Celebrate International Women’s Month? What do you think is so special about being a woman? What memory of your own mother inspires you to be a feminine woman who leans into the equality she deserves? We’d love to read your thoughts and stories, so please share them with the community!

What Are Your Gluteal Muscles and Why Are They Important for a Strong Body?

exercising gluteal muscles

Can you do this with your gluteal muscles?

Although you may get a good giggle from watching this video and then trying to practice it for yourself, there is a very serious side to why it’s important that you engage your gluteal muscles (butt).

Prolonged sitting or lying can cause wastage of the gluteal muscles as well as other muscles of the body.

Why Is Prolonged Sitting Dangerous?

As well as causing muscle wastage, sitting for extended periods of time can be a huge drain on your overall health and wellbeing. Type 2 diabetes, bone wastage, and mental health issues are amongst some of the other side effects.

“Humans are built to stand upright,” says an article on Better Health Channel, a site funded by the Victoria State Government in Australia. “Your heart and cardiovascular system work more effectively that way.

“Your bowel also functions more efficiently when you are upright. It is common for people who are bedridden in hospital to experience problems with their bowel function. When you are physically active, on the other hand, your overall energy levels and endurance improve, and your bones maintain strength.”

What Do the Gluteal Muscles Do?

The butt muscles play a huge factor in your overall stability and mobility. They also take part in your pelvic function.

They can assist in keeping your pelvic floor and back muscles stabilised which in turn can support you with urinary and bowel incontinence.

Building strength in your gluteal muscles will also assist in improving your posture and balance and keeping your back, hamstring or knee injuries at bay.

How Do I Strengthen My Gluteal Muscles?

There are many different options for exercises to strengthen your gluteal muscles. Squats or standing from sitting in a chair, leg lifts, bridges and lunges are some ideas.

Like the video above shows, simply squeezing your butt cheeks together or trying to squeeze them independently can also begin to bring strength into those areas.

Try This: If you are having trouble independently squeezing your cheeks, simply bring awareness to each cheek and think about squeezing it. Even if it is not working, keep thinking about the act of squeezing and keep practicing. Try this for 30 seconds at a time once or twice a day with adequate rest.

Another idea is to lay on your bed and squeeze your cheeks independently so you can feel the feedback that your bed provides underneath you.

Whatever you decide to choose to strengthen your gluteal muscles, consistency is key. A good program will include rest days also. Be careful not to overdo the exercises and only squeeze at around 50% capacity. Less is more in building strong, healthy gluteal muscles, and careful consideration is best when adapting to something new.

If you’re looking for workout ideas, you can download Rachell’s free workout guide to a strong body.

How many hours, on average, do you sit in a day? Do you feel that your lower body has weakened because of too much sitting? Are you doing exercises for your gluteal muscles? How often do you work your butt and upper legs? Please share your favorite butt exercise below!

What I Learned While Looking for Dolphins

lessons from dolphins

Several years ago, when I was living in Florida, I rented a beautiful condo on the river. The lanai overlooked the water, where I could see boats, kayaks, and all sorts of wildlife. My neighbors told me to watch for the dolphins that come around the pier in the morning. I was so excited; I couldn’t imagine seeing them right from my own home.

Let Go of Trying too Hard

Almost every day, I sat out on the balcony to have my coffee. I loved watching the birds and even saw flying/jumping fish, but no dolphins. Every time I saw even the slightest movement in the water, I would look a little harder, hoping to see them.

As time went on, I became discouraged, but I was determined to not give up. My lease was almost over, and I really wanted to see them before I left.

Find a New Way of Looking at It

Just a few weeks before my move, I was feeling sad that I had not seen even one dolphin anywhere. My mind went back to something I had heard at a Law of Attraction workshop. That you need to focus on what you want, not what you don’t want.

I knew I had been intently focused on NOT being able to see the dolphins for months. So, just for fun, I decided to play a game. I gave up looking for dolphins in the river and asked myself, “How many ways are there for me to see dolphins?”

Be Open to the Possibilities

Within 24 hours, I saw dolphins everywhere. People sent me cute dolphin emojis on messages and emails, I saw pictures on the Internet of beautiful dolphins swimming in the ocean.

There were books, magazines and posters with gorgeous images, there was even a woman dressed up in a dolphin costume on a program I was watching.

I laughed out loud and felt delighted by how the universe had responded to my simple question. It no longer mattered that I hadn’t seen dolphins in the water nearby because I saw so many everywhere else and in ways I would never have expected. It made me very happy.

Enjoy the Unfolding

The next day, as I was talking to my daughter on the phone, I suddenly caught a glimpse of a ripple in the water near the pier. I couldn’t believe my eyes; there were two beautiful dolphins swimming together in the river right in front of me.

I was astounded. I had been sure I would not see them and then there they were. Swimming back and forth, peacefully, staying in view for the longest time – it was a fantastic experience.

Look for a Deeper Meaning

It was also a great reminder that I can’t control things, but if I can relax and let go, everything will come to me in the perfect way and at the perfect time.

I play this little game whenever I am feeling shortage of any kind, and I am still surprised and delighted at how quickly it manifests.

The biggest lesson for me was that there are many ways for what I want to come into my life, I just need to be easy about it and trust the process.
