Erika Jayne’s Tie Dye Thumbhole Top

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 11 Episode 6 Fashion

Erika Jayne is sure to have a super intense episode tonight as things begin to unfold about her divorce. And the fact that the price tag is $38 shows me that she’s smart enough to stop wearing only uber-expensive clothing when the verdict is out (so to speak) like some of her fellow Housewives that have experienced legal issues. Which is something I’m always eyeing on the DL, but generally keep it to myself. However in this case, it shines a positive light on Erika and our bank accounts, so I’m here to share.

The Realest Housewife,

Big Blonde Hair

How to Activate Your Inner Goddess at 60 and Beyond

I never really thought of myself as a Goddess! That would have seemed far too high an aspiration for me. A Goddess, who me? Surely not! However, something has changed within me since I entered my 60th year.

I don’t quite know what it is, but it is a shift, a change and a whisper of possibility that maybe, after all, I have Goddess energy flowing through my bones and whispering through my veins!

So, I started researching… what makes a woman a Goddess? And what I found resonated so deeply and powerfully within me that I have to say, without a shadow of a doubt, I truly am a Goddess! Even writing this makes me smile as it seems so far away from the woman I was, and yet at the age of 60, I have become a Goddess in my own lifetime and it feels FABULOUS!

The journey of aging seems to be a precursor to all things Goddess. Someone once said to me that the word AGE stands for Annually Gaining Enlightenment! I loved that and it feels so true, especially as I can finally own that I really have gained enlightenment as I travelled my own journey through this life.

I don’t mean enlightenment in the sense of the word that I have it all figured out and somehow, I’m above it all. No, the opposite is true as I know I still have so much to learn. However, my journey has taught me wisdom, kindness (especially to myself), compassion, understanding and a deep sense of love for people and this beautiful planet we all inhabit.

So, if this is where you want to be too, read on for my top five tips for activating your inner Goddess at 60 and beyond.

Romance Your Body and Fall in Love with Your Life

Our bodies are where we live; our home throughout this lifetime. Begin each day by romancing and dropping into your body. Connect with your bones and see them as strong and supportive. Move your muscles and imagine moving with ease, joy and grace.

Smile inwardly at your cells and visualize them smiling back, happy to be a part of you. Thank your amazing body for all she does and step into your day with love and appreciation.

Work Through Pain with Grace and Courage

At times life can be painful, stress may be unavoidable, and death and loss is inevitable. Allow yourself to lean towards the uncomfortable emotions and listen to their messages. Pain changes. It shifts and moves.

Work through things in your own time and embrace your vulnerability. This is where true power lies. Use your pain to help you become a beacon of light inspiring other women to shine out loud.

Become MORE of Who You Authentically Are

Becoming more of who we authentically are takes time. At 60, we know more of what we don’t like, don’t need or don’t wish to spend our time on. However, we are also navigating new changes and are perhaps re-evaluating our dreams and desires.

Allow yourself to be swept off your feet with all of the things that you love. Take yourself by your own hand and run full pelt into the wildness of your heart. Wear clothes that make you feel beautiful and loved, write your words, paint your dreams, sing your own precious songs and create a symphony of YOU. Don’t hold back, your time is now!

Create Your Own Inner World of Love and Beauty

Sometimes the external world can make us doubt who we are or lower our energy so that we feel “less than,” “invisible” or simply not relevant anymore. When the news fills you up with tears and tragedies, offer your love to those who suffer.

When people speak of scarcity, lack and pain, open your arms and heart to abundance, joy and the wisdom of appreciating all of your blessings. When you feel lost and alone, remind yourself of how beautiful you truly are as you refuse to buy into another self-limiting thought or idea.

Wrap your Goddess cloak gently around your beautiful shoulders as you follow your true north and step out to illuminate the Universe!

Embrace Your Inner Wild Child or Rebel

No matter how old you are, stay in touch with your inner wild child and free spirit. This is the part of us that prefers to write our own rules and cultivate a life that we love. Ask yourself these fabulous guiding questions to help you tap into your own gorgeous Goddess wisdom and energy:

1. Who have I become and who am I becoming?

2. What is it to be passionate?

3. What golden nuggets have I learned from my life and what do I desire to share?

4. If my inner wild child could speak right now, what would she say?

How do you perceive yourself at 60 and beyond? Do you find more limiting beliefs in you, or a spark that inspires you to be you? Do you have your own tips for activating your inner Goddess? If so, I would LOVE to know what they are.

I Sent Vanessa Hudgens & Madison Beer My DNA In The Name Of Great Skin

Maybe I should have been a little more cautious before swiping the inside of my mouth with a DNA kit and handing it to my UPS guy. But I wanted to do a full Know Beauty review for everyone. So, off it went in the name of science and great skin. My Skin DNA Kit was headed over to Know Beauty, Vanessa Hudgens and Madison Beer’s new skincare line to find out how genetic factors impact might impact my dermis. Then, they’ll send me a personalized routine with their new products. Pretty cool, right? Here’s how it went.

First, you might be wondering how Vanessa Hudgens and Madison Beer teamed up for this project. Beer was friends with Hudgens’ younger sister Stella, so there was a family-friend connection. The duo has been in the public eye since they were young. They have both struggled with specific skin concerns and wanted to start brands of their own. So, they teamed up and enlisted chief medical officer and dermatologist, Dr. Karen Kagha.

Now, let’s get to giving up my DNA. While you can purchase their skincare online now, if you want a more personalized routine, you can do the confidential DNA Kit ($95 at Know Beauty) and analyze seven core genetic categories, such as skin sensitivity, collegan quality and pigmentation. Then you’ll fill out the (free) Skin Diagnostic Quiz to help the brand get to know your diet, stress level and other lifestyle factors. Finally, you’ll get product recommendations, taking the guesswork out of skincare.

Here’s a peek inside my DNA summary. The higher the number, the heathier your skin. As you can see, I’m at low risk for fine lines and wrinkles. “Your results indicate that you carry minimal genetic abnormalities that may speed up the collagen decline process,” reads my report. Yay! But look at that Skin Elasticity number. “Your results indicate that you carry a handful of genetic variations and may be prone to reduced skin elasticity,” my report says. Oops. Each result gave me specific skincare ingredient reccomendations. You can learn a lot from these reports, not just about yourself but about what each ingredient can do for your longterm skin health.

My Skin Diagnostic Results are a little more embarassing to look at. These are based off my answers to the quiz so you can see I desperately need to start working out again. I also don’t sleep enough, eat too much sugar and have too much stress. Can anyone else relate?! At least I eat fruits and veggies and stay hydrated.

Based off these two tests, Know Beauty sent me a personalized skincare routine. The company sent me the products for free for this review but you can decide which to purchase from your routine. The collection ranges from $20-$30, so they’re pretty on track with other big skincare brands. (Maybe even more affordable.) Each is cruelty-free and formulated without phalates, sulfates, mineral oil and parabans.

Below is the routine I’ve been using for about two weeks. So far, I’m really liking the line and feel like it is right for my skin type. I can see this saving money in the longterm since there’s less wondering if a product will be too heavy or greasy or drying. You can shop my products now and the rest on Know Beauty’s website.

3 Positive Ways to Prepare for Your Older Self

When my father was in his mid-80s, I remember him saying that when he was 75 he had to let go of thinking he was 40. He lived for another 10 years after saying that! Interesting – a mixture of a positive mindset and some realism.

I do much to support my life now in my late 60s and have a positive youthful attitude, but the fact is that if I live a long life I will be getting steadily older.

This post is about accepting that fact and preparing. Today I am thinking more about my emotions and health.

Know Yourself

Do you do that thing of looking in the mirror, smiling with your eyes and appreciating your beauty? I do, usually, but admit it’s easier these days with kind lighting!

It’s easy to fall into looking for youthfulness and judging oneself on that, but I want to look more dispassionately and lovingly at myself, accepting that it is OK to have a healthy body even as it changes with age.

We have far more images of beautiful youthfulness than beautiful age thanks to the media, but I want to keep an eye out for older women who look gorgeous.

It’s about imagining Judy Dench and Meryl Streep types of women – without make up, in conversation with friends, being seen as whole people with changing emotions, expressions, opinions, new thoughts and senses of humour. People who radiate life.

That’s the older Judy Barber I am preparing for, accepting getting older as an achievement and not as progressive bodily failure, loving being in my own steadily crinkling skin.

Living to 100

I saw a video series recently that got me thinking. It showed a woman of around a hundred walking then reaching and opening a big gate on the way to collect her post. Then she was breaking up the ground in her vegetable garden with a full size hoe.

Hmm, I wonder what I might be doing when I am 100. Surely, it depends on what I do at 68.

Movement Is Crucial

Whatever sports, gym activities, classes – such as yoga, tai chi and others – and exercise routines you enjoy make a huge difference to health, as we are often told.

Movement in every day life is crucial, too. I remind myself daily to consciously move in simple and small ways.

Make sure you keep walking on everyday errands, using the stairs, carrying heavy bags of shopping, carrying firewood, carrying grandchildren, carrying luggage, stretching up to the top cupboards – make the most of those activities.

What about the movements you made as a child? Going on tip toes, swinging your legs, wriggling your toes? All of these keep things flowing and keep your brain happy. You can literally keep on your toes!

Nutrition Brings About Health

Nutrition is an essential part of my plan for a long and happy life. It is relatively easy for me as delicious plant-based nutritious organic food is my passion!

Changing to as much organic food as you can reduces your future struggles with health because you won’t be adding alien toxins from herbicides and pesticides to your cellular biochemistry.

Here’s the math:

Less cellular junk-clearing, aka detoxing, day after day

=

More energy and life force for an interesting life.

Why plant-based? In my experience, it is easier on my digestive system. It makes a big contribution to energy and vitality, and I’ll be happy to tell you more in future posts and to share some delicious recipes.

If this is new to you, just focusing on organics and making sure you have plenty of fresh raw salads is an excellent start. I would love to know whether you experience a difference.

I have been eating plant-based food, with a big proportion of raw and sprouted foods, for such a long time now that it’s hard to imagine how life would be otherwise. I do know I am still agile and active, even though I’ve never been the athletic type.

I don’t have to deal with serious illness. I know I don’t carry excess weight and don’t have to think about dieting.

That’s not what I see in many in my age group. That’s not the most important thing from the inside though. It’s that I keep on feeling fully like myself, mind fizzing with ideas, body getting me around without much complaint – and I can still kick off my shoes to dance with my daughter!

I prepare for my older self with good food and keeping in motion.

How are you preparing for your older self? What kind of exercise or healthy lifestyle habits are you establishing your 60s? Please join the conversation and let’s exchange ideas!
