We’re Drooling Over Jennifer Garner’s New Bronde Bob

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, STYLECASTER may receive an affiliate commission.

Jennifer Garner is a classic beauty. She keeps it simple by not changing up her long, brunette hair very often. (This isn’t Alias, after all.) That’s why we were shocked to see Garner hit up a red carpet event with a bronde bob, blonde highlights on her brown hair and the shortest style we’ve seen on her in forever. It’s not a drastic change — not like other stars — but it’s a new look for Garner and one that feels fresh and modern.

Garner’s longtime hairstylist Adir Abergel is responsible for the chop and the wavy texture. “Short hair, don’t care!” Garner wrote on Instagram, along with a video showing how Abergel taught her to style her new cut. The video is sponsored by Virtue Labs, a haircare brand Abergel loves. (FWIW, we do, too!) He uses the healthy hair products on Kristen Stewart and Anne Hathaway, too.

“I have short hair! Which means, a new way to do my short hair,” Garner says. She first uses Virtue 6-in-1 Vitamin E Hair Smoothing Styler ($34 at Sephora) because it “brings out the natural texture” of her hair and protects it from heat damage. Then, she uses a blow dryer with a diffuser to style her hair. Next comes the brand’s Create Hair Texturizing Spray ($38 at Sephora) to “add some lift and volume” and “smell good.”

Finally, she finishes with Hydrating & Heat Protectant Healing Hair Oil ($44 at Sephora). “It won’t get rid of your curls and texture,” she says. “It’ll bring them up and happy.” She adds that all the products contain what Virtue calls Alpha Keratin 60ku, a healing protein that helps repair damaged hair while you style. The results? Seriously gorgeous. Save this page to take to your next salon appointment.

Nourish Your Beautiful Aging Skin from the Inside Out: 5 Foods to Eat Today

Aging-Skin

Being focused on getting my aging skin look beautiful, I got to the point where buying expensive skincare products cramped both my style and my budget. And, to make matters worse, when I looked in the mirror, I didn’t see any difference.

Yes, our skin is our biggest organ, and because of that, it kind of makes sense to think we need to cover it with all sorts of creams and lotions to look our best.

When I started working as a wellness professional, however, I soon understood that what we put into our bodies has just as much of an impact (if not more) as what we put on them. If your gut is inflamed, full of bacteria, or has other issues, you can tell from the condition of your skin.

So what food helps make healthy vibrant skin? What can you be adding to your diet today to nourish your skin and catapult your health?

Apple Cider Vinegar

I love apple cider vinegar for so many reasons, but make sure you dilute it before you drink it. Vinegar is like an acid to your body so take measures that you don’t drink it straight! Add one tablespoon (at most two) of vinegar to a tall glass of water.

There are many benefits to apple cider vinegar, including better digestion and more energy efficient muscles, but it’s a miracle for your skin health as well.

No matter what age you are, hormonal imbalances can wreak havoc on your complexion, and apple cider vinegar is an excellent antidote for acne, rashes, and dry skin.

Additionally, it will help restore your gut balance by cultivating the trillions of microscopic organisms living in your microbiome. Made with good bacteria and yeast, vinegar is fermented until it turns into acetic acid.

Without getting too far into the weeds, this is a beautiful thing to add to your diet and has many medicinal effects. And, if you can’t tolerate the taste, you can always use it as an astringent. It’s incredible at killing bacteria, removes dead skin and opens the pores.

Bone Broth

‘Tis the season for warm drinks if you live in the Northern Hemisphere and a perfect time to indulge in bone broth if you’ve never tried it before. The type of protein that’s in bone broth can rebuild elastin and other structures in your skin. It keeps you and your skin healthy!

Bone broth is loaded with gelatin and collagen, which helps skin stay stronger – longer. Another benefit is that because of the increased collagen production, bone broth helps smooth out fine lines, and deep wrinkles will become less prominent.

By regularly drinking bone broth, you’ll be giving your skin the nourishment it needs that those beauty products don’t offer. If you’d like to try making bone broth at home, simply click here for a recipe.

Avocado

OK, let’s face it, avocado is a fantastic fruit. Do you honestly need another reason to eat it?

Avocado is rich in skin vitamins like A, C, E, and K. Vitamin K is a potent antioxidant and is fat-soluble. It also protects against damage to the outside lining of every cell in your body. Most other fruits don’t contain vitamin E which also makes avocados unique.

Avocados provide a wealth of benefits for your skin, especially if you eat them regularly. In addition to all the vitamins listed above, a single serving is packed with antioxidants, folate, and other B vitamins. You can’t go wrong eating this perfect green fruit!

Walnuts

Walnuts are an incredible source of essential fatty acids. They have more omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids than most other nuts. Omega-3 is hard to get in our standard American diet, but they are important because they fight the inflammatory effect of omega-6.

If that’s not a good enough reason to add walnuts to your diet, then you should consider all the zinc they have which is necessary for our skin to work as a barrier, heal wounds, and fight inflammation and infection.

And, if you still need convincing to go out and buy a bag, walnuts also provide you with antioxidants, as well as vitamin E, C, and selenium. Oh, did I mention they have protein too?

Green Tea

Green tea has a ton of anti-aging benefits for your skin. It also protects your skin from sun damage because of powerful compounds called catechins. Catechins are potent antioxidants that also improve the hydration of your skin and reduce redness.

Green tea also improves skin moisture, thickness, and roughness and increases skin elasticity. It has a super-potent antioxidant that reactivates dying skin cells and has anti-aging benefits that can delay signs of aging! It’s pretty powerful!

The antioxidants and polyphenols found in green tea are some of the most influential on earth to protect the skin from environmental damage.

The Bottom Line About Healthy Skin

What you eat will have a significant impact on your health, and your skin is often a window into how your health is functioning. Make sure you are eating foods that will not only improve your gut but will also keep your skin healthy, attractive, and vibrant.

Let’s Have a Conversation:

What difference do you notice on your health when you eat clean and healthy foods? I’d love to hear your thoughts about nourishing your skin from the inside out.

The Retinol Serum That Gave a Shopper a ‘Glowing, Wrinkle-Free Complexion’ Is on Sale For $12 Ahead of Black Friday

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, STYLECASTER may receive an affiliate commission.

The hardest part about blemishes is resisting the urge to poke and prod. Let’s face it, you and I have both done it. But even if you do have self-control, some pimples leave acne scars that take forever to fade away. Instead of waiting it out, apply a formula that can smooth your skin tone and texture. One such product that should definitely be on your shopping list is CeraVe’s Resurfacing Retinol Serum.

TikTok’s fave skincare brand has done it again. This simple but effective face serum minimizes the appearance of post-acne marks and pores. It can do all of this thanks to encapsulated retinol, licorice root extract, niacinamide and ceramides.

Encapsulated retinol resurfaces your skin, licorice root extract brightens, niacinamide calms and three essential ceramides promote a healthy natural skin barrier. Sounds like the perfect blend of ingredients for your blemish-prone skin, right?

You should notice a visibly clearer, more radiant and smoother complexion after applying this serum each night. Just remember to apply an SPF every morning, since retinol has the potential to increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun.

All you acne-prone skin types are going to love this non-comedogenic formula. How do I know that? Because so many shoppers have raved about the results. One wrote, “After four days, I took a day’s break from retinol as redness started. Now, retinol every other evening, and BAM!!! Gorgeous, even, brighter, GLOWING, wrinkle-free complexion at 63 years old!!! Finally! The perfect retinol product!”

Finding a product that yields such amazing results is a tall order, which is why the Resurfacing Retinol Serum belongs in your daily rotation. Better yet, it’s on sale for 33 percent off ahead of Black Friday. Shop it for $12 while you still can!

This lightweight, fast-absorbing gel has gained quite a few stans on Amazon. It has earned a 4.6-star overall rating with over 23,000 shoppers giving it a perfect five stars.

“This product feels absolutely wonderful when applying it. It actually feels a bit moisturizing on its own. About a week [of] using it every night, I started to notice that the scars were lightening,” raved one reviewer.

Another one wrote, “Surprisingly, since I started using it, my acne has cleared up completely. Adding this product at night is the only change I made to my routine. My face no longer feels dry during the day. Overall, this product has helped balance my skin far more than anticipated.”

If you tend to have post-acne marks that love to linger or are guilty of popping your pimples that then leave stubborn scars, you’re going to want CeraVe’s retinol serum on hand. Plus, it’s hard to say no to a 33 percent discount heading into Black Friday.

4 Simple Exercises to Help You Find Clarity During Your Retirement Years

Retirement

As a senior woman, chances are you have lived a life of duty. You have spent most of your decades dedicating time, focus, and energy to your family and career – which is a completely noble and necessary role.

Unfortunately, before you know it, your original dreams get locked up somewhere deep inside a hope chest…

… And by the time the ‘retirement’ years hit, there can be a bit of haziness where your identity and role seem unclear as you transition into this new period of life.

When you look up ‘retirement advice’, the majority of the search results you get back have to do with financial advice.

And while it’s a prudent practice to financially plan for your retirement, it’s the non-financial retirement advice that can really lift your life into your best next chapters and give your life more meaning, intention, fulfillment, and purpose.

That’s why I’ve put together these four simple exercises to help you find clarity so you can focus on meaningful activities during your retirement years.

Exercise #1: Create Your Vision Board

Your vision is a concrete representation of your desires and goals. Without solidifying a defined vision, it can become difficult to make yours a reality.

TD Bank surveyed more than 1100 people and found that 67% of them believed having pictures of their goals will improve the odds of achieving them.

If you have the energy to go through an entire vision board process, great. Take the time to put together a physical or digital graphics collage to create a vision of your ideal retirement life… and get specific.

Another option is to simply circle five topics from this list that fit your retirement vision:

  • Completing unfinished projects
  • Learning a new skill
  • Taking on a new challenge
  • Developing a hobby
  • Volunteering
  • Consulting
  • Starting a new business
  • Working part-time
  • Home projects
  • Time with spouse
  • Time with friends
  • Time with family
  • Relaxing
  • Teaching
  • Going back to school
  • Mentoring others
  • Traveling
  • Exploring
  • Playing
  • Writing

At the very least, this exercise will force you to prioritize activities that are most meaningful to you. From there, you can further explore your opportunities within each of those five categories and work out how they’ll fit into your life.

Exercise #2: Rate Your Energy Level Across 5 Core Categories

Energy is everything when it comes to finding your passion. Energy is specifically something that you can generate from inside of you, so it’s uber important to pay attention to the people, places, and activities that give you energy vs. those that deplete you.

When it comes to your ideal retirement lifestyle, I like to cover five key ingredients in this framework. Within each of the categories below, rate your energy level from 1-5, 1 being completely depleted and 5 being very fulfilled and energized.

  • Community – your relationships, social life, and engagement in your community.
  • Growth – lifelong learning, new experiences, brain plasticity, overcoming challenges.
  • Giving back – sense of purpose, legacy, volunteerism, serving, gifting, and contributions.
  • Health – your diet and exercise as well as your physical, mental, and brain health.
  • Finance – financial security, budgeting, having enough to fund your retirement.

Once you assess your energy level in these five compartments of your life, you’ll have a better understanding of where to focus your attention. You’ll also be able to see very explicitly which part of your life gives you the most energy and which parts of your life drain you.

Exercise #3: Define Your Core Values

There are a few ways to go about defining your values. One way is to comb through a list of key core values and to circle 10 of them, then whittle the most important values down to your top 5.

Another way to do it is to answer some core value questions, like these:

  • Which 3 core values do you want to pass on to your children and grandchildren?
  • What 3 core values do you want people to think of when they think of you?
  • In just 3 words, what’s your philosophy for living?
  • What are 3 things you value the most?
  • Imagine your dream day. What 3 emotions or values describe your experience?

From there, you can isolate your top 5 core values.

Once you align everything you do with your core values, you’ll be living in flow with your true authentic self, which means you’ll feel that much more fulfilled.

Exercise #4: Answer Finding Clarity Questions

Self-reflection in a written format can be very beneficial, especially if you take the time to dig deep and write out your honest answers that tend to be otherwise hidden away. Here are a few finding clarity questions to help you in this process:

  • Who is your favorite childhood mentor, and what did you learn from him/her?
  • What are your regrets?
  • What are your strengths and biggest accomplishments?
  • What are you not so good at? What would you like to learn?
  • What’s a failure or mistake that you made and what did you learn from it?

Those are just a few questions that can get your juices flowing. The takeaway is to be mindful of what really makes you tick and to chase after that.

Make Room for Deep Thoughts

Finding clarity is all about digging deep. It doesn’t happen overnight, and it requires a lot of real, honest attention. Like most good things in life, the more work you put into it, the more you’ll get out of it.

While it’s not the easiest task in the world, once you find clarity, it can absolutely propel you toward your ideal active, healthy, and engaged retirement lifestyle.

Let’s Have a Conversation:

What kind of exercises do you do for finding clarity? Which of the exercises explained here resonate with you? How will finding clarity make an impact in living your ideal retirement lifestyle? Let’s have a discussion in the comments below.
