Christina Aguilera Opened Up About Getting Cosmetic Injectables: “Why Not?”

Something is changing in the world of Botox and fillers, injectables as a whole. Celebrities (at least some of them) are admitting to getting work done. Just look at the recent news surrounding Cardi B, Julia Fox and Joe Jonas admitting to injectables like it’s NBD. Now, it’s Christina Aguilera’s turn. She’s teamed up with Xeomin (and Merz Aesthetics), an FDA-approved anti-wrinkle injection to temporarily improve the appearance of frown lines. The campaign is titled “Beauty on Your Terms” and she spoke to Allure about what that means.

“I think we all can rely on a little help,” she told Allure. Still, she wanted to ensure any cosmetic injections were safe and would fit in with her life. She can’t perform with a frozen face! “When I’m on stage, authenticity in my face comes first,” she said. “I have a very expressive face, and when I sing, the emotion there has got to come through. I don’t have time to have a stoic, still face. For me, it’s about bringing that realness to the stage and my daily life while still doing what I can to feel and look my best. So Xeomin felt like the safest choice for me.”

“As one of the most powerful and iconic voices of our time, Christina Aguilera personifies our ‘Beauty on Your Terms’ mission,” said Patrick Urban, Merz Aesthetics President, North America, in a statement. “Our trailblazing marketing collaborations have reached a new audience. With the U.S. aesthetics market expanding at a rapid pace among adult Gen Z and Millennials, we’re focused on empowering women and men with the freedom to make the aesthetic choices that help them maintain their self-confidence.”

Xeomin (or incobotulinumtoxinA) is like Botox, Dysport or Jeuveau in that it’s a form of botulinum toxin type A. But Xeomin promises to be “naked” with only one ingredient instead of accessory proteins. It all comes down to formula. If you’re interested in injections, talk to your dermatologist to find out which one is right for you.

Alert: Kourtney Kardashian Is a Platinum Blonde Now & Her Sisters Have A Lot to Say About It

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, STYLECASTER may receive an affiliate commission.

Over the weekend, lifelong brunette Kourtney Kardashian debuted platinum blonde hair to the surprise of her 214 million followers. They’re used to seeing dramatic hair changes from her sisters, especially Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner. It’s rare for Kourtney to be the one to change it up but she’s been on a bit of a roll. Over the summer, she cut her hair into an even short bob. And now that bob is about as blonde as you can go.

Kourtney posted a series of photos with a caption that, well, confused some. “Every now and then when your life gets complicated and the weasels start closing in, the only cure is to load up on heinous chemicals and then drive like a bastard from Hollywood to Las Vegas … with the music at top volume and at least a pint of ether,” she wrote while sitting at a slot machine. (For what it’s worth, the quote is a Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas reference.)

For the picture, she moved her blonde bob‘s part from the middle to the side.  “I have no idea what this caption means, but I love your hair with a side flip!” wrote Khloe Kardashian. “loveeeeee,” wrote Kylie.

She also posted an edgier look from Vegas, wearing a black leather bustier and jacket. It’s giving ’90s pop star in the best way possible.

Of course, a few professionals went into both of her looks and she tagged them in the photos. Cassondra Kaeding is responsible for the platinum blonde color. We heard she used K18’s Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask ($75 at Sephora) to keep Kourtney’s strands strong. Glen Coco styled her hair using Aveda products and makeup artist Shelby Smith was on glam. The sultry smoky eye really pops against her white-blonde hair.

Whether you’ve seen Zendaya on the big screen in Spider-Man: Homecoming or on HBO’s hit series Euphoria, there’s no denying that she looks stunning in whatever makeup look she’s rocking. While her flawless complexion can often be credited to MUA’s on set, you may be wondering what exactly the star wears on her own time off-screen. Believe it or not, she loves to play around with makeup herself.

As Lancôme’s youngest Ambassador (she joined in 2019), Zendaya is often spotted wearing products from the brand—including a mascara that shoppers say never budges, smudges or flakes. That said, a bare-face is often her norm on a regular basis, too, as she noted in her Vogue Beauty Secrets video. Get a gal that can do both!

While Zendaya can be found on red carpets and in interviews wearing any number of varying products, we scoured the Internet to find some of the most frequently spotted ones she uses.

March Is Just Right for a “Blue” Party

blue party

Well, here we are in the early days of slushy, mushy March. We are crawling toward spring, but it’s slow. The holidays are behind us, winter has lost its charm, the tax deadline looms, and summer vacations are still months away. It’s no wonder that many of us feel a little “blue” this time of year.

If you find yourself in that situation, why not embrace it – and mix it with a little fun? My recommendation is to plan a “blue” party!

What’s a Blue Party?

I threw my first blue party a number of years ago when my husband and I were separated for five months due to a job situation. Most recently, I threw one with my grandchildren when they experienced a big disappointment. In each case, the “blues” were soon chased away, and we could move on.

There are many ways to do a blue party, but here are a few essentials:

Dress in Blue

Have all your guests dress in blue. This generally isn’t very difficult. Most people have a blue shirt or sweater they can pair with jeans. Blue hair is even popular now!

Decorate in Blue

Next, decorate with a blue theme: blue streamers, blue balloons, blue paper plates and cups.

Add Blue Refreshments

This might seem challenging at first as there aren’t many blue foods. But there are blue tortilla chips, and you can dye the chip dip blue. Blueberries can be served fresh or baked in a pie! You can bake a cake and frost it with blue frosting.

Add blueberry ice cream. At the local grocery store (Aldi), I found a blueberry goat cheese to serve with crackers. And you might be surprised to find how many blue drinks there are!

Blue Entertainment

Now, best of all, plan some “blue” entertainment.

Pop in a Tear-Jerker

Find an appropriate movie, grab a box of tissues, and revel in feeling blue together. Options include

  • Casablanca
  • Life is Beautiful
  • The Notebook
  • So many others.

Consult your friends. Every woman seems to have a favorite tear-jerker.

Or Go in the Opposite Direction

Choose a movie with the word “blue” in the title where the content is anything but. How about:

  • Comedies like Blue Streak, The Blues Brothers, or My Blue Heaven;
  • The romantic comedy Blue Hawaii (an Elvis classic);
  • Romantic dramas such as Blue Valentine with Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling, My Blueberry Nights, or Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine

Turns out these are only the tip of the iceberg. (Fun fact: Did you know that icebergs actually appear blue, not white, as the oxygen is squeezed out by the weight of the ice?)

Other movies with “blue” in the title:

  • The Varsity Blues (1999 comedy drama)
  • The Thin Blue Line (1993 drama)
  • Blue Thunder (1983 action thriller)
  • Blue Steel (1990 action thriller)
  • Blue Ruin (2013 thriller)
  • Blue Miracle (2021 uplifting drama)
  • RiverBlue (documentary)
  • Ice Blue Movie (2017 mystery thriller)
  • Elizabeth Blue (2017 drama)
  • Or reaching way back, there is the 1965 drama, A Patch of Blue
blue movies

Keep googling, and you’ll find even more!

Or Put on “Blue” Music in the Background

You could listen to any music that qualifies as “the blues.” Etta James or B. B. King, anyone?

Or once again, choose a song with “blue” in the title. While lots of song titles include a color – “Yellow Submarine,” “Purple Haze,” “Brown Eyed Girl,” “Green, Green Grass of Home” come to mind – the color blue outstrips the others by a wide margin.

According to Spinditty.com, there are 88 popular songs with “blue” in the title. Here’s a playlist, mostly oldies but goodies, to get you started:

  • “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” (Willie Nelson, 1975)
  • “Blue Suede Shoes” (Elvis, 1956) and “Blue Christmas” (Elvis, 1957)
  • “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue” (Crystal Gayle, 1977)
  • “Blue Velvet” (Bobby Vinton, 1963) and “Blue on Blue” (Bobby Vinton, 1963)
  • “Blue Bayou” (Roy Orbison, 1963; Linda Ronstadt, 1977)
  • “Blue Moon” (The Marcels, 1961; also recorded by other artists)
  • “Folsom Prison Blues” (Johnny Cash, 1955)
  • “Blueberry Hill” (Fats Domino, 1956)
  • “Blue” (LeAnn Rimes, 1996)
  • “How Blue” (Reba McEntire, 1984)

In Neil Diamond’s 1972 “Song Sung Blue,” he sings about how we all feel blue at times but if we put our feelings into song, we “sing out our blues” and we can’t help but feel better. That’s the whole idea behind a blue party: turn “feeling blue” on its head by embracing it and having fun with it!

Let’s Have a Conversation:

How do you combat blue days? Does a “blue” party sound like fun? What would you do at a blue party?

Thrive After 55: 3 Tips for Healthy Knees

healthy knees

As a Personal Trainer, and after working for years in Physical Therapy, I know from many women that they can’t exercise or are limited to only walking because they have “bad knees.” As we age, it is common to experience osteoarthritis in the joints, especially the knees, as our cartilage wears away.

However, there are natural ways to prevent knee pain, keep osteoarthritis at bay, and build strength in our legs to improve mobility, strength, and even push a knee replacement way off into the future.

Tip #1: Stay Active and Keep Moving!

If you have osteoarthritis in your knees, you may notice they are very stiff and achy, especially if you are sitting for a long period of time such as in the car or at home. Your knees also may be stiff first thing in the morning. Our joints like motion because it allows the synovial fluid to lubricate them, like a natural oil can for your knees.

When you drive, try to position yourself so that you aren’t too close to the wheel or too bent in your knees. Allowing a little more extension can take pressure off the joint. If you are going for a long ride, or sitting for a while at home, try doing some heel slides to loosen up the joint and get the synovial fluid to bathe the joint to ease stiffness and improve mobility.

Keep your foot on the floor and gently bend and extend your leg, sliding your foot along the floor. Move through a pain free motion and do about 10-20 repetitions. As you move, you should notice your knee bending and extending easier with less aches and pains.

Another great way to loosen up the joint is to set a reminder to get up and walk every hour. This is another way to keep more motion in the joint. Even a short walk can make a difference! Do you have an activity tracker that reminds you to get up and get moving?

Tip #2: Strength Training for Healthy Knees

As we age, our body loses muscle as part of the natural process of aging; that is, if we aren’t actively strength training or resistance training to maintain the muscle. This loss of muscle mass and loss of strength will place more strain on your joints.

Be sure to add some resistance training for your lower body 2-3 times a week with a few exercises of 8-15 reps and 2-3 sets. Check out this video for a few exercises to help you build strong knees and lower body:

Tip #3: Maintain a Healthy Weight

Maintaining a healthy weight can help to reduce pressure on your joints. Losing a few pounds can go a long way toward reducing the pressure on your knees – and protecting them. Research has shown that every pound lost takes 4 pounds of pressure off your joints! It can feel like a catch 22 if you have pain in your knees and feel like you can’t exercise to lose weight.

Starting with walking is a great way to improve your mobility and burn calories. If walking on land is too strenuous for you, consider walking in the pool to reduce the pressure off your joints. Add in sideways and backwards walking as well as high marches standing in chest high water to work your muscles more while reducing the impact and increasing the buoyancy!

Strength training is also proven to burn more calories than cardio, so adding resistance training exercises a few times a week will help you to work towards a healthy weight.

Lastly, eat a balanced diet with lots of fruits, veggies, fiber, complex carbs, and protein. Protein can help to build and maintain muscle mass, especially as we age. Are you getting 25-30 grams of protein per meal? Try adding hemp heart seeds, flax seeds, and chia seeds to your oatmeal, greek yogurt, or smoothies! Avoiding added sugar can help to reduce inflammation in your joints.
