Pumpkin Spice Latte Makeup Tutorial (Smoldering Eye!)

It’s pumpkin time! What is your favorite pumpkin-type food? Pumpkin bread? Pumpkin soup? Pumpkin latte? I make a mean pumpkin bread that used to last maybe six hours in my house, but, now that the kids are grown, might last a bit longer.
Having said that, the pumpkin spice latte makeup look is spinning its way through the perpetual trend factory on social media so I thought I’d show mature ladies how to do the look in style.
In this video I demonstrate how to create the look while using mostly Merit Beauty products, a line I am reviewing and affiliated with.
Plump the Face (and Nothing Else!)
There are very few body parts that we put the word “plump” in front of and feel good about it. For example, don’t you love my “plump” thighs? Or “plump” belly? How about my “plump” bosom? When it comes to our faces though, the word “plump” can be used with reckless abandon and we love it.
This is where hyaluronic acid comes into play with skin care products. In the video, I used the Glow Serum that has a whopping 4 types of hyaluronic acid combined with a little bronzer. Hyaluronic Acid immediately causes your complexion to have a more glowing and, well, plump look to it. The trouble with hyaluronic acid is that your body doesn’t manufacture it, so to maintain that look you need to reapply daily.
The bronze aspect to the product makes any skin shade have a light glow. This is pretty but will also show facial hair a bit more than normal. There are several ways you can remove facial hair if you don’t want them peeking through, including electrolysis, threading, depilatories, and waxing. You can also use laser, which works fine unless you have light colored hair. Personally, every other week I shave my face and notice that this only takes a few minutes and works great.
Smoldering Smokey Autumn Eyes for Everyone
For my pumpkin spice look, I picked a palette by Jane Iredale called Naturally Matte. It’s perfect. Lots of autumn flavored shades including a burnt orange and peachy lid color. If you have primarily pink/blue skin undertones, this might not be the palette for you, but warm undertones from light to medium dark complexions should fare well.
To get the smoldering effect, add a color about 1-2 shades darker than your skin all over your eye area. Then take the darkest shade with a slanted liner brush and place it next to your eyelash line both on the top and bottom lashes. Then take a reddish/brown eyeliner pencil and run it on top of the eyeshadow color and blend it until it looks soft.
You can continue with a warm brown in the water line, a dark orange in the outer crease, and the light peachy shade in the brow bones and/or inner eyelid. The options for what colors you use and how you use them are many, so have fun and do what looks best for your own coloring and personal taste.
Pouty Lips and Puffy Lattes
Aging is a gift not a burden, as I often say. As an addendum to that comment, I’d like to add that having pouty lips until the day you can’t reach for the lip gloss is an absolute necessity. I love lip gloss. It doesn’t last longer than 5 minutes on my face, but I still love it. It’s like adding glitter to your eyeshadow.
It’s less about how it looks and more about the deep love I have for all things shiny! Add a latte with whipped cream on top and BAM, my inner child (little Suzy) starts dancing and whirling about with her pink twirly skirt!
In the video I make my lips appear poutier by using a peachy lipstick coupled with a lip liner about 2 shades darker than my skin, added just outside my natural lip line (blend well) and then a dash of Terracotta Lip Gloss on top. Viola! Me and my whipped cream doused latte are now fabulous. Give me this any day of the week and I will smooch you.
Forget It, I’m Drinking
The upcoming holidays offer an assortment of beverages, and I, for one, plan on sampling the ones that don’t make me barf. I have this terrible memory of drinking eggnog and then being sick, so I will skip that one.
Why do I bring this up in an article about pumpkin spice makeup? In the end, your makeup can be a disaster, your hair a mess, and puffy thighs your favorite trend. Let’s face it, it’s all about the family, joy, and the great gift of coming together. If you feel like going for it on the makeup, I’m right there with you.
Let’s Have a Conversation:
Is there such a thing as “seasonal makeup”? What would be a great makeup look for autumn? Did you like this pumpkin spice makeup tutorial?
