Music is more than just entertainment – it’s memory, emotion, connection, and legacy. For those of us caring for aging loved ones, it can also be a powerful way to honor their journey, spark meaningful conversations, and create moments of deep connection.
That’s why I’m inviting up to five compassionate caregivers to join a special pilot program that transforms a loved one’s life story into a beautiful, personalized musical experience.
As we grow older, we often reflect on the soundtrack of our lives – the songs that carried us through first loves, weddings, Sunday mornings, and quiet evenings. This project, a Memoir in Music, created through Sage Stream, helps you and your loved one turn that soundtrack into something tangible and lasting.
What’s Involved?
It starts with something simple and joyful: curating a “Life Playlist.” Using an easy-to-follow template, you and your loved one will select about 15 songs that represent the key moments of their life. These can be songs from childhood, favorite records from young adulthood, or music that marks milestones – weddings, careers, friendships, family traditions.
Here are examples of some of the included questions:
- Do you have a favorite type of music? From that music, are there specific go-to songs?
- What type of music did you listen to when you were young? Are there specific songs you remember?
- What were/are your favorite singers, bands, etc.? What songs do you recall that they performed and what songs do you like the most?
- Did/Do you sing at church? What religion/denomination are you and did/does that influence your music preferences? Are there specific go-to songs you like?
- Did you enjoy going to Broadway Shows or musicals? Which ones?
- Where are you from? Country, region of country? Ethnicity? Did your region influence your music preferences? And if so, are there songs specific to your region or culture that resonate?
Submit that to me then I will have a pre-concert call with the caregiver to better understand the song choices and context. Then, I’ll host a free personalized music session just for the two of you.
During this live session:
- I’ll perform the songs live.
- We’ll explore the memories attached to each tune – what it meant, who it reminds them of, what emotions it brings up.
- After each song, we’ll take a moment to reflect together, creating space for laughter, storytelling, and sometimes even healing.
This isn’t a performance – it’s a conversation wrapped in music.
A Lasting Keepsake
To make the experience even more special, the entire session is recorded and edited into a keepsake video. You’ll receive a beautiful, heartfelt tribute to your loved one’s life – something you can revisit, share with family, or simply hold onto as a legacy piece.
Why This Matters
For older adults, especially those experiencing memory loss or loneliness, music can be transformative. Research shows it stimulates the brain, reduces anxiety, and helps people reconnect with parts of themselves they may have forgotten.
But beyond the science, it’s the emotional impact that stays with us. Music brings joy. It brings people together. And when it’s tied to the stories and people we love, it becomes sacred.
Interested?
If you’re a caregiver – whether for a parent, spouse, sibling, or dear friend – and you’d love to honor their story in a way that’s joyful, meaningful, and fun, I’d love to hear from you.
We’re accepting five caregivers for this pilot. There’s no cost to participate, just a willingness to share, reflect, and celebrate your loved one through music.
