This Innovative App Is Like Shazam For Lipstick & It Really Works

Do you ever look at a dress or a top you’re wearing and think, this would make an incredible lipstick color. Maybe it’s something a little more random, like the pink color of your sofa or the brown of your coffee table. Well, now you can find the closest Chanel lipstick color with just the click of your phone. Chanel Lipscanner, the brand’s newest makeup app, uses AI technology to find the closest match and let me tell you, it actually works.

The app is free and allows you to Shazam any color you see to match it to one of Chanel Beauty’s 400 lipstick colors. I used to be obsessed with the Shazam app, always trying to the exact song I was hearing at the grocery store. As a makeup obsessive, this is going to be a lot more fun.

After you simply point and click, taking a photo of truly anything, the app connects you with the closest Chanel lipstick shade. Then, you can try it on right in the app before making your purchase. Chanel makeup isn’t cheap so this is a great way to ensure it’s the color you’re dreaming of before you add it to your cart.

I snapped a few photos of my handbags and found my favorite red crossbody bag matches really closely to Rouge Coco in Coco. It’s really fun to play around with. But hey, if you’re just in the mood to shop some new lipstick shades, check out a few of my favorites, below.

Our mission at STYLECASTER is to bring style to the people, and we only feature products we think you’ll love as much as we do. Please note that if you purchase something by clicking on a link within this story, we may receive a small commission of the sale.

Affordable Eyeshadow Palettes That Outperform Their High-End Counterparts

Back in the day, eyeshadow palettes (at least, for me) felt like a major splurge, because not only were they almost exclusively offered by high-end labels, but also because they just weren’t as popular and widely available at all a decade or so ago. I would personally argue that Urban Decay’s ubiquitous Naked palette was at least in part, responsible for putting palettes on the map. Fortunately, affordable and drugstore labels have finally caught up with prestige brand’s expansive offerings in the category, and it’s become pretty easy to score a quality palette on par with pricier options. Affordable eyeshadow palettes have become more and more impressive, making it so much less guilt-inducing to have a few of them on hand in your current makeup lineup. Not only are the formulas blendable, long-lasting and pigmented, but the shade selections are also highly nuanced and innovative, meaning you won’t be stuck with a few everyday muted taupe and basic brown hues to play with.

And while I’m personally totally okay with putting with less-than-stellar packaging if it means the product’s formula is superb, the drugstore palettes highlighted below happen to deliver in both arenas (which is a major plus if you’re a frequent traveler or a bit on the accident-prone side of the spectrum).

60 and Wondering What to Do with Your Life? Start a Blog!

how to start a blog after 60

How many blogs do you read in an average week? Have you ever wondered whether you should start a blog of your own?

I can help you answer that question with a resounding, “Yes!”

There are blogs about every conceivable topic. You can find blogs dedicated to everything from ant farming to Zumba!

Why Blog?

There are many motivations for blogging.

To Share an Interest

Some bloggers are passionate about a topic and want to share their enthusiasm. For example, craft bloggers can share their projects with others and receive great satisfaction from doing so.

To Teach a Topic

There are blogs to teach every conceivable skill, from electric guitar to how to give a business presentation. If you have a dormant teacher inside of you yearning to share whatever it is you know, start a blog.

To Provide Encouragement

Have you encountered and endured some life difficulty? One sure way to redeem pain is to use it to encourage others.

You can find blogs about surviving cancer, raising difficult children, and bouncing back from bankruptcy. What life experience do you have that you can use to provide encouragement to others?

To Tell Your Story

Want to write your memoir, share your travel adventures, blog about your lifelong career in teaching? Writing a blog can be a perfect vehicle for this!

To Make Money

Some bloggers make a business out of their blog and are able to earn an income. We have all visited fashion or home improvement blogs that feature products and services for sale.

Do you see yourself in any of these categories? You might be a perfect candidate for blogging!

How Do I Get Started?

It is very easy to succumb to blog envy. There are so many beautiful, professionally designed blogs out there and trying to reach that ideal can be discouraging, and maybe even stop you from trying.

It is valuable to study and enjoy the work of others, but don’t let that stop you from dipping your toe into the blogging water!

You can get started with a simple blog, for free, and spiff it up as you grow – if you choose to grow!

What Do I Do?

Blogs live on the Internet. They have an address, called a URL, like www.sixtyandme.com.

Then the blog functions on a platform, the most popular being WordPress.

You can start a blog for free on wordpress.com or blogger.com. These sites will give you free hosting. You can sign up, provide limited customization to your URL, pick a free theme, and start blogging!

If you want more control over the design and capability of your site, you need to educate yourself. You will need to purchase a URL (your own web address) and hosting, then use a free or custom theme.

If it seems like a lot, it can be. If you merely want to try this out, take the free route and see if you like it. You can always upgrade and shift things around later.

How Do I Learn More?

If you google the phrase, “How to start a blog,” you will be amazed at the number of free resources available out there. Some are free offers that may invite you to join a course later.

Like anything else on the Internet, some resources are really good, others – not so much.

My personal advice is to spend some time looking around and find a few successful bloggers you might like to follow. If you try to follow everyone, you will become overwhelmed! Trust me, I speak from experience. Pick a few and read all their stuff – then take action!

If you get completely captivated by blogging, as I have, and want to up your game, the Elite Blog Academy is the Cadillac of blogger education.

I wouldn’t take this course as my first blogging course, but if you are already on the blogging path and want to significantly up your game, there is no better course.

I took the EBA course a few years ago and thanks to it have grown a significant mailing list and generate increasing affiliate commissions. It was well worth my time and investment.

So, what are you waiting for? Want to share your knowledge, your words, your encouragement? Are you interested in jumping in full speed and building a business?

Blogging is the perfect way to do it!

How many blogs do you follow? What is your experience with blogging? Do you think you have something to say to the world? Would you consider blogging a possible means to share your voice? Let’s have a discussion in the comments below!

Strike a Pose! How 9 Over 50 Style Icons Are Challenging Stereotypes

Over-50-Style-Icons-are-Challenging-Stereotypes

When it comes to fashion for the mature woman, the question should not be “What’s in style?” or even “What should I wear?” Rather, ask yourself “Who am I?” So says Andrea Pflaumer, author and blogger on fashion, style, and art. Shopping For the Real You, her blog and book of the same name, is helping women worldwide discover and embrace what best evokes their own personal style.

Below we discuss 9 style icons and actresses, all over 60, each of whom defies the conventional rules in order to express who they truly are. We want you to take a look at these women and ask yourself how much of their spirit you also embody.

Sarah Jane Adams

This famed Australian jewelry designer has an unmistakable, whimsical, Bohemian style. High spirited and artistic, her look is playful, light, natural, and gives off a colorful, fun vibe. It’s who she is!

Sarah Jane reminds us that we’re not monolithic in terms of our style. Rather, fashion can and should be used to express different facets of our own personality.

Iris Apfel

Andrea describes Iris Apfel as a truly amazing woman, one whose style and attitude towards aging makes her a true icon. Iris likes to incorporate ethnic jewelry and textiles from third world countries into her wardrobe, and she does it in style.

Her personality, zest for life, and fashion sense have led to her being the oldest person to ever have a Barbie doll made in her image. What’s more, last year, at 97 years old, she even signed a modeling contract with a major modeling agency!

Dori Jacobson

This blogger and founder of Senior Style Bible is frequently stopped by strangers in her hometown of Las Vegas, wanting to know about her fabulous outfits! A former Playboy bunny, she likes to shop at stores like H&M and Zara and emphasizes you don’t have to spend a lot to look amazing.

Her style is dramatic and classic, and even at 85 years old she still loves to wear her high heels! One of the biggest tips Andrea learned from Dori is to always wear a good handbag and good shoes. If you do, you can look great in almost anything.

Lynn Slater

Lynn loves to wear couture. To keep her expensive taste from breaking the bank, about 97% of her wardrobe comes from vintage stores. Her style is high-spirited, full of drama, and elegant.

She almost exclusively wears black and white. While most of us enjoy some color in our wardrobe, if you really think about it, it’s not a bad idea. Once you find your style and get everything in a similar color, you can make outfits out of a seemingly infinite number of combinations.

Lynn embodies shibui, a Japanese aesthetic that’s refined and classic, yet artistic and even a bit dramatic. A professor at Fordham University, students frequently stop her while walking on campus to ask how she achieves her fabulous look. She loves having such an impact on young people.

Maye Musk

The mother of famed entrepreneur Elon Musk has made a name for herself in her own right, both as a model and as a dietitian. She loves to wear black and white, and has a knack for combining very bright colors with very dark colors to forge a dramatic look. With her short white hair and dynamic personality, she’s continuing the modeling career she started at age 15.

Helen Mirren

Helen Mirren is a bit of a cultured bohemian. She experiments with fashion (and her hair color) but always does it in a way that expresses a deep self-confidence in her body and a desire to reflect her class and character.

Her clothes communicate her best traits – intelligence, vibrancy, a playful elegance, and subtle femininity. She knows which features she wants to show and which ones to hide (her arms). She also knows how to make colors work for her.

Helen is a master of accessorizing and uses her handbags, in particular, to accentuate her clothes. She puts things together in classic yet sensual ways. If your fashion style is elegant, classic, vibrant, and expressive, Helen should be a source of inspiration.

Jane Seymour

Jane Seymour

Jane Seymour is the epitome of femininity. Her clothes communicate her love of fashion and make her sparkle. She loves adornment and chooses clothes that accentuate her beautiful hair.

I love that she is not afraid to look “dressy” and even a little dramatic in her clothing choices. Her selection of jackets is wonderful, and she has chosen exactly the right shape for her body type. If you describe your fashion style as romantic, timeless, dramatic, and colorful, Jane Seymour seems to match.

Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep’s fashion choices are as varied as the roles that she has played. She is a bit of a chameleon in this respect. Her style is bohemian and eclectic, adventurous, and spirited.

Meryl is also not afraid of taking chances with her clothes. From a tunic and jeans to a white classic silk suit, she looks through her dark glasses and seems to say, “This is me, like it or not.” Her wardrobe is probably a collage of bright colors. If you like to get attention and don’t mind taking a few chances, Meryl Streep may be your fashion match.

Judi Dench

Not only is Judi Dench a brilliant actress, but she is also charming, approachable, and real. Her authenticity is expressed in the clothes she wears, which are understated.

In her 70s, she has found her style and is sticking with it. Without being overly conservative, she is stylish, down to earth, warm, and comfortable. Judi accepts her body type and wears clothes that accentuate her coloring. For women who define their fashion style as comfortable, relaxed, and classy, Judi Dench is a great fashion role model.

So, there we have it! Nine very different women with nine very different styles. What I love most about this collection of images is that it shows that there is no single “right” fashion for women over 60. We are as different as the stars, and we have the right to choose clothing that makes us feel great as individuals.

These women have chosen clothes that express their wonderful personalities, lifestyles, and body types. We can all relate to at least one, and possibly several, of them.

Do you have a passion for fashion? Which of these nine fashion icons and actresses most reflects your own style? Are there any aspects of each you want to emulate? Do they make you want to try something different?

All-Natural Castor Oils to Promote a Healthy Head of Hair

Thinning hair can be caused by a slew of different things, from genetics to stress and even hormonal changes. While there is a slew of prescription treatments to help reduce and prevent hair loss, there are also many natural remedies touted for their holistic yet effective hair-enhancing benefits. Unfortunately, unlike Biotin and other B-vitamins, there isn’t a ton of compelling research vetting the alleged connection between castor oil and accelerated hair regrowth, but it’s received plenty of anecdotal praise nonetheless.

In fact, castor oil does have natural anti-bacterial properties, which can help to give the scalp a deep clean, removing dead skin cells, product build-up, and other grime that grime. What does this have to do with hair growth? Well, just like the skin on our face, when the hair follicles on the scalp become congested, out follicles basically become clogged, making it more difficult for new hair to grow.

Castor oil therefor can help keep these pathways clean and clear, which promotes healthy hair growth cycles. In addition, it’s also super hydrating and chock full of nutrients that nourish the scalp. The best part? You can also use it on your lashes and brows for a natural serum alternative. Ahead, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite formulas to try out yourself.
