Erika Jayne’s Leather and Tweed Skirt

Erika Jayne’s Leather and Tweed Skirt

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 11 Episode 13 Fashion

On tonight’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Erika Jayne walks into the party wearing her leather and tweed skirt and certainly seemed to turn heads. And from the looks of the preview maybe she doesn’t owe that to her super cute skirt for once and just to the fact that she showed up? Either way I’m glad she did.

Now, like the rest of the RHOBH ladies,  Idon’t know where Erika’s money is at. But I can tell you where mine is and it’s invested in a Style Stealer of her skirt and headband.

Sincerely Stylish,

Jess

Mature Age Fitness – A Comprehensive Guide to Getting Started (VIDEO)

starting fitness mature age

Think you are too old to move and work out? There are some definite biological differences between your 20s, 50s and 70s and of course your life is different. You may have more responsibilities and less time for yourself.

This does not necessarily mean you cannot create some fantastic gains in your strength and fitness over a period.

Setting yourself small goals to start, i.e., I will aim to lift weights/walk twice every week for the next month, will pay off in the long run as you create a habit in consistency which builds long-term sustainability in strength and fitness.

Where Do I Start?

Firstly, I do recommend you hire a good coach, either in person or online, to really guide and support you.

However, if you want to go it alone and/or have been dabbling in the gym or your chosen sport/movement and you want some real, tangible, and actionable tips to help you improve your performance, then read on.

I want to firstly start by talking about the Mind-Body Connection. We are all wired to feel; however, life can get in the way, and we forget to tune inward. I find that many mature women have been effectively tuning out of their own body for many years, and it is then my job to teach them to tune back in. This brings me to my first lesson.

Be Fully Present at Your Workout

Feel your Mind-Body Connection and trust it. Tune in, don’t mindlessly work out, feel each muscle doing its thing.

What is each muscle telling you? How does each movement feel? Does it feel like it’s working, or does it feel weird? Do you like the exercise? If not, why? Is it because it is hard? Or do you need another way of doing it? Do you need to slow down a bit?

Trust your body to know and tell you when it’s time to stop or try a different way. If an exercise feels wrong, then it may not a great fit for you, and it’s likely you won’t continue with it because it does not bring you joy.

Before Each and Every Workout

Ask yourself these questions:

1. How is your energy today?

2. How do your muscles feel today?

3. Are you tight or sore from other workouts?

4. Maybe you didn’t sleep well or your neck hurts from your pillow. How can you work around that?

5. Do you feel stressed or anxious today?

6. Are you well fed?

7. Have you had enough water?

Yes, this list is long, and why do you need to ask yourself these questions? Because THEY matter, and YOU matter.

This list of questions can be the difference between a great workout or a not-so-great workout. It can also help you to decide what type of workout you will be doing today.

Tired/Stressed?

Consider doing a shorter and lower intensity workout.

Sore/Stiff?

Consider working different muscles or changing your session up to incorporate more stretching.

Lack of Food/Water?

Not an ideal situation to go into a movement session and one that needs to be rectified quickly. Consider waiting until you can eat or hydrate. You will only end up feeling nauseated, depleted, and lightheaded.

Feel Like a Change Today?

Play-based movement is great for a change.

Grab a ball and go outside and kick it around or throw it at a wall. Even better, take your grandchild, partner, friend, dog outside with you, and throw the ball to each other.

Don’t have a ball? Try some balancing work: see how long you can stand on 1 foot, hop from side to side, and try and lift off from your non-dominant side.

You get the idea, just play and experiment. All movement is good! And don’t have any specific expectation. Just release energy by playing.

I will often schedule sessions like these into clients’ programs because they are fun but also a great way to relieve stress and anxiety, further enhance the mind-body connection and work on agility, mindfulness, and coordination.

It does not always need to be about performance!

The Starter Motor – Let’s Rev That Engine Up!

Warm up at least 10 min. Give it more time if you can, but this is non-negotiable if you want to stay in your choice of movement long term.

For mobility exercises, here is one of my favourites:

If you’re doing weight training, do the same lifts you intend to do in your session – with no weight.

Get out a resistance band and play around with it.

Do some gentle cardio like the bike, treadmill, walk, step, etc.

Make sure you feel warm and ready.

Aim for a nice steady breath without feeling huffy-puffy or feeling like your muscles are burning.

The Main Event

Now you are ready to GO!

Enjoy your movement session – and I mean really enjoy it.

It’s Cool to Cool Down

It is very cool to cool down. It is not cool to do the session then jump in your car and head home. Why? Because you just missed the best part of the whole session!

If you are doing a run/bike ride etc., aim to slow down your pace somewhat and slowly ease to a stop. It’s not great for you to go from full speed to stop in 3 seconds.

Wind it down slowly.

If resistance training, wind it down with some gentler lifts towards the end of your session.

Then it is time to stretch. This is your time to thank your body and be grateful for what it has just done. This is your time to reflect on what you just did and be proud.

Aim for at least 5 min of stretching which can also encompass mindfulness and belly breathing. Here is one of my favourites:

After Your Workout

People often tell me their muscles feel sore in a good way when describing their next day stiffness/soreness. This is when you know you have done a good workout. Your muscles may be sore but should not be over-sore or painful. You will know if something does not feel right. Tune in and TRUST your body.

And in case you do not feel stiffness or soreness it does not mean that you need to work harder or that your workout did not count.

Sometimes we have a physiological response such as soreness and stiffness and other times we don’t. There are many factors as to why you do not feel sore; however, it not being a good enough workout or you not pushing yourself enough is not one of those reasons.

You Are Everything

You know the saying, “treat your body like a temple”? Well, it’s true. We only have one body. We only have one lifetime. Be kind to your body, give back to it. Speak to it gently. Your time is NOW.

The Three Best Fall 2021 Makeup Trends (You Can Actually Use!)

fall makeup trends

Every season I am suckered into trying the new trends in makeup. Partly because it’s my business, and partly because it’s funny. Not ha-ha funny, mind you, but funny in that I would look bananas wearing most beauty trends that hit the market.

That being said, don’t let that fact deter you from modifying certain looks to keep you looking current and, dare I say it, cool. (My daughters have said I will never be cool, but that never stopped me.)

For all the ‘cool’ mature ladies out there, here are my top three makeup trends that you can actually use in 2021 including lots of liner, lots of lashes, and lots of bold lipstick.

Lots of Eyeliner

The heavy eyeliner trend is, well, heavy, and not necessarily attractive depending on your eye shape, age, and general flavor. That being said, you can modify it by applying the pencil very close to the lash-line and using a slanted brush to soften it down.

Try MAC waterproof eyeliner pencil in Brown Border and MAC slanted eyeshadow brush 263 for ease of blending.

I recommend adding the waterproof eyeliner under your top lashes in your waterline to give a stronger liner look without appearing overly made up, and also putting it on the lower lash-line between your lashes. Both tricks will keep you looking modern and not like a drag queen, although I must say I’m a huge fan of drag queens.

Lots of Lashes

The extra thick and long lashes look we’ve all come to either loath or relish continues into fall 2021 with no signs of relinquishing. There are a few magical ways to achieve this look, some are more expensive than others, but all of them will get you there.

For those of you willing to lay down the cash, lash extensions are amazing and work wonders. That being said, you will have to return to have them touched up monthly to the tune of $150-250 per session. If you just choked, you’re not alone. However, many a thin-lashed woman has basked in worship at the undeniable effect of the pricey plunder.

For the more cost-conscious among us, an eyelash curler like Shu Uemura’s and repeat layers of your favorite semi-goopy mascara like Elf Volumizing Mascara will do the trick. If you prefer false lashes, try cutting them in half and just having the outer edge sit slightly above your lash line to further open up your eye area. In the video, I used Lashes in a Box, but any cheap false lashes will do.

Lots of Bold Lipstick

It’s so easy to get stuck using the same neutral lipstick because that’s what you plopped in your purse 10 years ago. It’s time to break free. Try a deeper tone of lipstick while avoiding the Cruella de Ville evil dog-snatcher look.

For example, if you like rosy tones, try a nice raspberry like Joanna from Jane Iredale. You can therefore stay in the same pink color family, but make it pop with a lip gloss and strategically applied lip liner. In the video, I demo how to use a neutral lip pencil to give you fuller, more pouty lips. I prefer to do this rather than using a matching liner because it softens down the bolder lip color.

Will we ever be cool? Will our respective family members ever actually say that if we update our makeup look? Who cares! As long as you don’t look like you’ve gone round-the-bend, trying new things is fun and a wonderful distraction from the current world events that threaten to swallow-up our good feelings.

For me, makeup is a transformational, buoyant pastime that keeps me focused on being my best and always being open to new ideas. Have fun!

This Heavenly-Smelling $15 Scrub Turns Showering Into a Spa-Like Experience

For the past year, my skin has been dry, which is a new phenomenon for me. I tried multiple $40+ shower scrubs for exfoliation, but the $15 Soap & Glory Flake Away Body Polish bested them all. The consistency, the effects and the smell come together to turn any shower into a spa.

Although I’ve got my 7-step face skincare routine down, I’ve never paid much attention to my body (save your lectures, I know it’s bad). I know that I’m supposed to moisturize daily, but I really only remembered to do so when my skin felt noticeably dry. In the past year, I, like many other women—68 percent, in fact, according to Soap & Glory— are trying to spend more time on self-care. Exfoliating in the shower is an easy way to do that. You’re already in the shower, so you might as well take a few extra minutes.

The more expensive scrubs I’ve used in the past had grainy consistencies. As I rubbed them into my skin, I couldn’t tell if they were actually working. I just blindly assumed they were doing their jobs until I tried Soap & Glory’s Body Polish where I noticed an immediate difference after the first time. The scrub consists of sea salt, sugar, shea butter and apricot seed oil. This scrub felt softer and smoother in my hand, as I pulled some out of the jar. It didn’t separate and was easy to spread around my skin. It felt like I was not only sloughing away dead skin, but also getting a moisturizing boost (thanks to the shea butter).

When I stepped out the shower, I felt like I had already put a layer of moisturizer on. Plus, the sweet, rich smell of Soap & Glory’s Original Pink Fragrance followed me. This blend smells of rose, bergamot and citrus. It’s not overwhelming, but it smells like you just got out of an expensive spa treatment. It’s so calming.

Our mission at STYLECASTER is to bring style to the people, and we only feature products we think you’ll love as much as we do. Please note that if you purchase something by clicking on a link within this story, we may receive a small commission of the sale.

All of the Soap & Glory bath and body products have that scent—unlike other brands, where the fragrances can be different. Other times, I’ve felt like I smelled a like Bath & Bodyworks—in a bad way—after inadvertently mixing so many scented shower, hair and body products. And every single one that I’ve tried is hydrating, so I’m definitely a convert.

I overhauled my entire bathing routine with Soap & Glory. I’ve also spotlighted a few other products that I think are buying in tandem with the body polish. Select Soap & Glory products are currently buy one and get one 40 percent off at Ulta, so now is the perfect time to stock up.

Clarifying Shower Gel

While most body washes strip your skin of its natural moisture while removing dirt and the day’s grime, this body wash is so hydrating. I stepped out of the shower feeling like I had already put on some moisturizer.

Body Butter

Made with shea butter and aloe vera, this body butter truly looks like butter—but unlike other body butters, it won’t leave your skin feeling greasy. Some body butters don’t seem to penetrate below the top layer of your skin, but this one will leave you feeling totally quenched,

Bath & Body Oil

Forget bath bombs—opt for a bath oil instead. Get your moisturizing process started while relaxing with a glass of wine by just putting a little bit of this vegan oil directly into the water. You can also rub it into your skin
