Month: September 2021

I Shop Online For A Living & These Are The 8 Things I’m Buying In September

I’m not trying to brag too much here, but I’m pretty certain that I have one of the coolest, most enviable jobs around. Reason being? I scour the internet for the best shopping deals and coolest trends every day, and get to test out so many amazing new clothing pieces, beauty products, and home goods. I’ve been a shopping writer and editor for a few years now, and have developed a knack for determining which products are worth every penny, and which ones are better left in the virtual cart.

This month is all about stepping into the fall comfortably. Stores like Target are beginning to roll out their fall home lines and sites are seeing increased search interest in moisturizing and clarifying products (makes sense, given that temps are sadly going to plummet and the air is about to dry). Amazon’s Movers & Shakers page—a section that shows what items are rising in popularity—is filled to the brim with soothing lotions and oils. Google is being inundated with “fall fashion” inquiries and people on Pinterest are starting to search for pumpkin recipes and candles once more.

My shopping carts fit the bill for these fall trends perfectly. I’m shopping for nourishing face masks, sleek platform loafers, and cozy throw blankets to start my cold weather months off the right way. Check out the eight essentials I’ll be buying this September below:

Our mission at STYLECASTER is to bring style to the people, and we only feature products we think you’ll love as much as we do. Target is a STYLECASTER sponsor, however, all products in this article were independently selected by our editors. Please note that if you purchase something by clicking on a link within this story, we may receive a small commission of the sale.

Neutrogena Anti-Residue Clarifying Shampoo

I don’t know what it is about spending so much time indoors, but ever since the pandemic began, my scalp has been a mess. I’ve experienced more dandruff and dryness these past two years than I have collectively my entire life. My one saving grace? This simple clarifying shampoo. It removes icky product build-up from dry shampoos and conditioners without stripping my hair of its natural oils. For best results, I swap this product with my typical purple shampoo once or twice a week.

I’m of the belief that if you have a good pair of loafers, you can wear them across every season. I love the androgynous vibe of the shoes. They’re punk and sexy at the same time. Unfortunately, most quality pairs are a few hundred dollars. That’s why, when I found these Sam Edelman ones, I squealed out loud with glee. The Olivia Rodrigo-esque shoes platforms come in black, tan, or green and pair them with practically every dress or pair of pants you’ve got hanging in your closet.

Cable Knit Chenille Throw Blanket

There is no problem that curling into a cozy throw blanket can’t solve. This is why at the beginning of every fall season, I gift myself a new one. I love the look of all things cable knit. The sophisticated design makes tops and accessories like this blanket, which is just $25, look so much more expensive than they are.

It’s time for society to pass the point of calling everything pumpkin scented or flavored basic. Let’s all just agree that pumpkin anything is delicious and should be celebrated, not mocked. This September, I’m going all in on candles. Nest’s Pumpkin Chai candle is everything I want to cover my space. The spice scent is decadent without being overwhelming. Plus, the candle itself is a warm orange. You can’t find a better fall candle than this.

Mr. Coffee Mug Warmer

I’m fairly certain that this clever coffee invention was made for me. It ensures that slow sippers (moi) won’t ever have to deal with lukewarm drinks ever again. To use it, all you have to do is flip the switch on, and the base will warm your cup’s bottom and keep the liquids inside nice and hot. I’ll be keeping this accessory on my WFH desk at all times.

Free People Picnic Sweater Romper

This fall, I don’t want to wear anything that requires more than a little effort to put on. Jeans? Absolutely not. A button-up shirt? You’ve got to be kidding. Heels? Please, don’t make me laugh. But this sweater romper? Sign me tf up. It’s like wearing a stylish and socially acceptable set of onesie pajamas. I plan to keep it on at home during work and lounge time, then dress it up when I go out with tights and combat boots. It’s such a simple look, but those are the best ones to style again and again.

PÜR 4-in-1 Sculpting Concealer

PÜR 4-in-1 Sculpting Concealer

There are very few people I trust with makeup advice. One of them is Rachel Nussbaum, InStyle’s beauty writer. She knows everything there is to know about the ingredients that comprise popular foundations, hairsprays, etc. Her vast knowledge comes with a lot of heartbreak. She often tells me (and her readers) of the harmful irritants that are too-often included in name brand products, so when there’s a brand she approves of, I take note. Rachel told me that Pur is on her list of A-Okay concealers, so I’m hopping on this 4-in-1 color corrector faster than a kid on a trampoline. It comes in 16 shades, costs under $25, and is free from the nastiness of phthalates, aluminum, and talc.

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask

I’m a writer living in New York. Translation: I don’t have an income that gives me the means to spend hefty amounts of cash on skincare (nor do I want to). Spending close to $50 on a face mask would physically and emotionally pain me if I didn’t already know and love this one so much. I’ve been using Summer Fridays’ Jet Lag Mask for years. It saved my skin when I was on Accutane, and continues to be my secret to non-greasy hydration. I’d say I have to stock up on it about every five months, and this September is one of them. I’ll be using it to prevent cracked winter skin, and before date nights or brunches to give me a Hailey Bieber-esque glow.

Tracy Tutor’s White Gold Button Blazer

Tracy Tutor’s White Gold Button Blazer at Her Client’s House

Million Dollar Listing LA Season 13 Episode 2 Fashion

Unlike the Beverly Hills house Tracy Tutor is listing, her white gold button blazer from this scene on last night’s MDLLA is actually super affordable. However like the house, if you’re super tall it may feel too small for you (but don’t worry, it’s supposed to be cropped).

Fashionably,

Faryn

Million Dollar Listing LA Season 13 Episode 2 Fashion

Tracy Tutor was all of us non Gen Z-ers on last night’s episode of MDLLA trying to figure out how to use Zoom. But hey, at least she looked good while doing so in her blue ribbed bodysuit, even though we’re pretty sure no one in the meeting could see the cute side cutout (thankfully we were able to catch a bit of it though).

Fashionably,

Faryn

4 Secrets of Confident Divorced Women over 50

confident divorced woman after 50

In my years as a divorce recovery coach for women over 50, and as a survivor of divorce myself, I have seen that every single confident divorced woman over 50 possesses four common traits.

It doesn’t matter her professional background, or where she lives, or the circumstances leading to her divorce. What determines if she gets unstuck and breaks out of the hidden narratives she’s operating from are possessing four crucial traits.

She Doesn’t Play the Victim

It’s understandable to feel like you’ve been wronged after divorce at 50. And you’re allowed to grieve and work through the mistreatment and disrespect that you endured.

Taking charge of your healing is powerful. Knowing you deserve better and working to heal is what is going to build your confidence. But here’s the difference between a confident divorced woman who’s able to move on and one who stays stuck for years, not being able to move on past the divorce at 50 and beyond.

The confident divorced woman acknowledges that pain, gets help with it, but knows that the mistreatment doesn’t define her. She owns her destiny and actively makes the moves to pursue her interests, passions, and the things that productively serve her so she can rock the next chapter of her life.

She knows that she is capable and worthy of moving on from that past pain, and gets the help she needs if she gets stuck.

Confident divorced women over 50 don’t waste their emotional energy thinking about the people who wronged them. They’re too busy focusing on their own amazing lives.

She Is Self-Aware

A confident divorced woman over 50 knows her triggers, her quirks, her turn-ons, her non-negotiables, her standards, her boundaries, and her interests.

She also knows her strengths and her weaknesses and can also acknowledge when she fell short.

She knows her worth, knows when to use her voice, but also has the intellectual humility to know she doesn’t know it all, but is always open to try new things.

Confident divorced women know what they want out of life but are also okay with coming up with a Plan B when things don’t go as expected.

Is knowing all of these things easy?

Heck no. But confident divorced women over 50 have the faith in themselves to do the work to overcome the BS narratives that are keeping them stuck.

That self-awareness, and being open to questioning those ideas that no longer serve them, and rewiring their DNA for something more empowering, is what sets them apart from the divorced women who feel stuck, unable to move on even years after their divorce.

She Lets Go of People-Pleasing

Many women were raised with trash narratives that went along the lines of “being ladylike” and “being a good girl” and not stepping on toes.

From a young age, many of us were conditioned to believe that the only way we would be accepted in life was if we made our parents happy, if we took care of our younger siblings, and if we got perfect grades to please the teachers.

As if those burdens weren’t enough, when we got older, the people pleasing came in the form of always dressing sharp but not too sexy, wearing makeup to look “nice,” but not too flashy, finding a man but not marrying “too old to have kids,” staying home to raise the kids but also having your own career, and the list goes on and on.

A confident divorced woman went through all of those contradictions. She didn’t have any special advantages over women who are still struggling.

But the one factor that let her move on was the fact that she said, “to hell with this.”

A confident divorced woman no longer cares what people think about her.

She has become so grounded in herself and her own worth that she is no longer trying to win the acceptance and validation of others.

When a divorced woman over 50 turns her attention to herself, what makes her happy, what makes her feel fulfilled, she feels better. She starts living life on her own terms.

She Invests in Herself (Without Feeling Guilty)

A confident divorced woman over 50 knows she’s worth it. She invests in herself to feed her passion and interests.

Whether it’s signing for a French class because she loved learning it in high school but then life got in the way. Or hiring a private piano tutor because she loved playing when she was little. She knows that people in her life may be catty and say, “gee, must be nice to afford that,” but she ignores them. She doesn’t owe them any explanation.

But she also invests in the things that will make her stronger, more resilient, and help her heal faster.

She’ll hire the coach. And the therapist

She may feel overwhelmed and a little intimidated at taking the plunge to invest in herself.

But she has faith that her investment will pay off. And she’s not afraid to work her tail off to make sure she gets the return on her investment.

She knows that her past does not define her. That the commitment she makes to herself in the present will get her unstuck. And that her future is going to be one of fulfillment, fearlessness, and fun because she put the work in to get it.

Are you a confident divorced woman over 50? What are your secrets to feeling your best? Or are you feeling stuck in your post-divorce state? What stumbling blocks prevent you from believing in yourself?

NikkieTutorials Is Finally Launching Her Own Beauty Brand After Fans Begged for It

Your BFF, your favorite beauty girl, one of the most genuine people in the game, is finally getting into the business herself. Nimya by NikkieTutorials is a new brand announced today by none other than Nikkie de Jager — or NikkieTutorials as you probably know her. The Dutch YouTuber has been making YouTube videos since 2008 and has collaborated with every major celebrity and beauty influencer. Fourteen years later and with almost 14 million followers, she’s launching her own brand of skincare and makeup.

“Over three years ago I thought, why not? You know, why not take a chance, why not see what I can offer to this community because I’ve been in this community for over 14 years,” says de Jager in her latest YouTube video. “This girl’s getting old. And for over 14 years I have played with literally pretty much every single product in the market. I know what I like and I especially know what I don’t like.”

She had been approached by investors for years but the timing was never right and she didn’t want outsiders involved in her brand. Finally, she and her business partner decided to figure out what’s “missing” in her routine and make those skincare products. From that, more products came out. She’s starting with just four products (well, plus a fan) to put all her love — and money — into them.

In fact, de Jager used her own money, not investors,’ to create Nimya. “I am putting myself up for a lot here and that’s maybe another reason why it took so long,” she says.

First up is the Cooling Eye Stick ($22) to de-puff and moisturize your under-eyes. Next, the Where Is All Starts Cream ($30) is a moisturizer and primer hybrid that de Jager calls her “baby.” Then you’ve got the License to Glow Serum ($37) with pineapple fruit extract and marula oil to hydrate and reduce redness. Finally, the Set It and Forget It Setting Spray ($25) for a matte finish that makes any makeup lasts — she promises. Oh, and we can’t forget about the cute Blow Before You Go Fan ($15). If you buy all four products, you’ll get the fan for free for a limited time.

You can shop all the products on the Nimya website on September 23. (She’ll announce the time soon.) You’re going to want to set your alarm. There’s no way these aren’t going to sell out. Congrats, Nikkie!
