Tarte Just Launched a ‘Radiant’ Version Of Its Cult-Fave Shape Tape Concealer

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, STYLECASTER may receive an affiliate commission.

There are two types of concealer people: ones who like a thick, full-coverage look and others who prefer a more hydrating medium coverage for no-makeup makeup days. Tarte officially has them both covered with its launch of Shape Tape Radiant Medium Coverage Concealer. If you’ve used Tarte’s OG Shape Tape (and at this point, who hasn’t?), you know it covers everything. Even the more hydrating Shape Tape Creamy is very full-coverage. That can be a great thing but sometimes you want a lighter, more glowy look. That’s where the new launch comes in.

Shape Tape Radiant has slightly less coverage — a more medium, buildable — for when you really just don’t need a full face beat. It still brightens the under-eye area, reducing the look of dark circles and hyperpigmentation. But there’s zero cake — even if you have dry skin. That’s thanks to the smoothing addition of centella asiatica, vegan collagen, niacinamide and a triple hyaluronic acid blend.

Tarte.

Now, I’m a Shape Tape stan. I have been for more than a decade. But I also almost never wear full-coverage foundation so sometimes it’s too heavy coverage. The new Radiant formula is perfect for me. I still feel like I’m getting the coverage I want but it doesn’t completely mask my natural skin and freckles. I also have fine lines under my eyes and this one glides right over them. I’m on the dryer side so I don’t even use powder and it’s almost totally seamless.

What I’m most impressed with though is the shade range. Tarte has obviously listened to feedback and expanded its range even in terms of undertones. Because it’s not just about the number of shades. There are 10 shades within the Fair-Light category, 10 shades for Light-Medium and a 17 for Tan-Deep tones. The brand really looked at how to brighten the under-eyes of the darkest skin tones and if one of my favorite influencers says they nailed it, I believe it.

Golloria is with Alix Earle and other big TikTokers in Turks and Caicos with Tarte to celebrate the launch. But if you follow Golloria, you know she tells it like it is, no matter what the brand thinks. And I love her for it. Earle is also a big Shape Tape fan, which she says goes all the way back to high school.

wait but this concealer .. RADIANCE 🤩🫶🏼 @tartecosmetics trippinwithtarte

Even better, you don’t have to wait to try it. Shape Tape Radiant Medium Coverage Concealer is out now on Tarte’s website.

22 Cruelty-Free Beauty Brands

cruelty-free beauty brands

Are you concerned about animal welfare? Do you try to live a compassionate life? Do you think that testing beauty products on animals is archaic and cruel? Join the club.

It used to be that people didn’t question how their products were tested. The beauty and cosmetic industries have been performing live animal testing to assure the safety of their products for humans for decades. At the cost of animal suffering.

I remember first seeing the images of bunny rabbits with red eyes in the early 80s and I was shocked. I started thinking that I didn’t want to be a part of that. Unfortunately, I enjoyed (and still do) wearing makeup. It wasn’t easy to get transparency from the companies back then.

Fortunately, there are many beauty brands that have turned away from testing ingredients and products on animals. There is definitely a high demand for it as compassionate consumers demand change and better practices. Also, it is much easier to find out if a company, brand, or product tests on animals. I’ll get into that shortly.

Some of the brands we’ll cover in this article are:

  1. Covergirl
  2. Garnier
  3. Dove
  4. Elf
  5. IT Cosmetics
  6. Paul Mitchell
  7. The Body Shop
  8. Lush
  9. Marcelle
  10. Charlotte Tilbury

Why Test Beauty Products

Obviously, as consumers, we expect the products that we buy not to harm us. Ingredients are constantly being created for the beauty industry and these have to be tested and vetted before using them to make products.

As people became more aware of the torturous practices that the beauty and cosmetic industry was inflicting on helpless animals, more people started voicing their concerns. Including celebrities and high-profile people.

Dear intelligent people of the world, don’t get shampoo in your eyes. It really stings. There. Done. So f***ing stop torturing animals.”

—Ricky Gervais

When choosing to develop or use new ingredients in their cosmetic products, some companies conduct tests on animals to assess the safety of these new ingredients. This practice is both cruel and unnecessary because companies can already create innovative products using thousands of ingredients that have a history of safe use and do not require any additional testing. Plus, modern testing methods (such as human cell-based tests and sophisticated computer models) have replaced outdated animal tests with new approaches that are often faster, less expensive and more reliable.

How to Find Cruelty-Free Beauty Products

Luckily, it has never been easier to find cruelty-free products. Many organizations put together a list of brands and companies that do not test ingredients and products on animals.

I mention ingredients AND products because you may buy a product that was not directly tested on animals, but that may contain ingredients that were in the supplier chain that was. Brands may also get away with going undetected because they use third-party companies to do the testing.

Terms and phrases to look for on labels:

  • Cruelty-free
  • Leaping Bunny Certified
  • 100% Vegan

You can also download one of these mobile apps and use it when shopping. They have extended databases of cruelty-free products that are regularly updated.

The First Step to Survive and Thrive After Divorce – Change Your Thoughts

thrive after divorce

Conflicted feelings and emotions are at an all-time high after the transition through divorce. Sometimes it’s terribly challenging to control and channel reactions to people or situations in a positive, constructive way; and as a result, you may feel like you lack control over your life.

I Get It!

I understand when self-confidence and courage take a beating. It’s a struggle to deal with challenging people, conditions, and situations that you now face. So, how do you begin to gain control over yourself when faced with certain scenarios?

One of the secrets to changing your life for the better is learning how to change your thinking. When you think the same thoughts over and over, you’re going to get the same results over and over, right? It can’t be any different.

Sometimes, thoughts “trigger” reactions that we don’t want but can’t seem to control.

Here’s an Example

You see a happy couple walking down the street holding hands and obviously engaged in loving conversation. It might “trigger” longing and discontent within you. It brings up sad, remorseful feelings of loss relating to your own personal situation. Those feelings are uncomfortable. It might cause you to behave in out-of-character or impulsive ways.

What Are Some Typical Reactions Vs. Healthy Responses?

  • Feel a tension headache or other physical discomforts.
  • Dive into the refrigerator.
  • Drink too much wine.
  • Say things you might later regret.
  • Engage in compulsive shopping, sex, or gambling.

It’s your way of relieving yourself of the uncomfortable feelings you are experiencing.

If you look closely at this, you see it makes sense that if you have thoughts and feelings that are negative they create negative actions and results. The way to change your results for the better is to change your thoughts.

How Do You Learn to Change Your Thoughts?

Start to notice your thoughts. Ask yourself, “What am I thinking about?”

How do you notice your thoughts?

If you feel uncomfortable or feel a constricted feeling inside, that is the “TRIGGER.”

(It could be an upset stomach, throat tightening up, color rising in your cheeks, sweaty hands.)

When you are aware of the “trigger,” you have the power within to change your reaction without. You can respond instead of reacting so that you make better choices.

Here’s an Example

If you are thinking about how bad it is and you are talking about it to yourself, NOTICE IT. Instead of getting all involved with the mind chatter or self-talk, just notice that you are having that thought.

You observe it. You can say, “I’m having that thought.”

Then, you push the thought aside, and change it to something positive. When you do that, you are in control of your thought instead of the thought controlling you.

Meet Jenny

Jenny is recently divorced, and she has a tough time controlling her thoughts about lifestyle changes she has to make going forward. Here’s what she said:

“I have three kids. My husband left me because he said he just didn’t love me anymore. He wanted out. I am devastated. Now, it will be one salary and child support. I want to keep my home but there won’t be enough money to cover expenses. I HAVE TO DOWNSIZE!”

What Can She Do?

When the mind chatter and self-talk start taking over her thoughts about downsizing, Jenny notices her thoughts instead of getting all involved with them. She begins to notice the anxiety she feels in the pit of her stomach. It’s the “trigger.”

Jenny thinks to herself, “Oh, what am I going to do? I don’t know the first thing about selling a house. Where do I find a good realtor? What is the process?”

Instead of getting all involved in those same repeating thoughts that cause her stress, SHE NOTICES THEM.

This Alerts Jenny to Change Thoughts to More Empowering Ones

How does she do that? She focuses on the positive aspects of the problem. (This is awfully hard to do but becomes easier with practice.) Changing her perspective about the situation allows her to look at and think differently about it.

Here’s an Exercise Jenny Does to Focus on the Positive Side of the Situation

First, she writes down the challenging situation at the top of a piece of paper.

Next, to get her mind to focus on the right direction, she lists all the positives she can think of about downsizing. (This is hard for her to do because she is not coming from that perspective.)

1. Reduced home maintenance.

2. Find a new home closer to schools and work.

3. Utility bills will be less.

4. Create a budget that provides financial control.

5. Scope out neighborhoods and pick one that is community and family oriented.

6. More time with children since no need to get another job.

7. Find a good neighborhood that will make children and me feel welcome.

8. Contact a realtor and learn the next steps.

9. Declutter and purge old stuff to get organized.

10. More affordable home insurance and lower tax bill.

What this does is take the focus off the problem and gets her to think about discovering a solution for it.

Then, when uncomfortable feelings (triggers) come up about downsizing, Jenny can immediately push them out of the way and replace them with the positives she listed.

In this way, she’s in control of herself instead of her thoughts controlling her. She moves out feeling like a victim and takes responsibility for taking positive action. She takes action in doing what she can do now with what she has.

What’s the Lesson Learned from This Scenario?

We will continue to get the same results if we continue to think the same thoughts. Our lives will not change for the better. When we learn how to notice our thoughts and change them, we are on the way to opening a space in our mind to begin to discover a solution.

We discover the secret to taking control of our life. We step into our power and RISE UP.

Download my free e-book, Survive and Thrive After Divorce. It goes more in depth about why changing your thoughts is the first step to embracing a new beginning building a life you would love living.

Let’s Have a Conversation:

Can you share a challenging situation that you are dealing/have dealt with after your divorce. What positives can you share about that situation? There has to be a positive because without a positive there can be no negative. It can be lessons learned or wisdom earned.

Piano Lesson 8: A Murder Ballad and Goodnight Ladies!

piano lesson

NOTE: If you are just joining us for the first time, you will find the list of my previous Sixty and Me Free Piano Lessons at the bottom of this post. You can join our lessons any time!]

It’s Lesson 8 and today we’re debuting a new note Bass F in the song Goodnight Ladies. Remember the song Goodnight Ladies from the musical The Music Man? I loved the original film starring Robert Preston, Shirley Jones, Buddy Hackett and of course little Ronnie Howard as the lisping Winthrop.

Click to see The Buffalo Bills sing Goodnight Ladies while the townswomen sing Pick-a-Little, Talk-a-Little (Goodnight Ladies starts at 2:05). We are going to play Goodnight Ladies soon, but first let’s review the CLEFS in our book, Upper Hands Piano, BOOK 1, on p.11.

8.1 Reviewing Bass Clef F, p.11

Remember that the BASS CLEF has two dots beside it. The line in between the two dots is the F line. This is the F below (to the left of) middle C. Think of Bass F as a touchstone; you can count up or down from that F to help you figure out other notes on the staff. Here’s my video reviewing Bass Clef F and Treble Clef G:

8.2 Goodnight Ladies, p.34

Ready to play Goodnight Ladies? Here’s my demonstration video, but try playing it on your own before watching the video:

On the bottom of p.34 is a tricky MUSICAL MIND GAMES puzzle. It looks like a Word Search, but it’s actually a PENTASCALE search! The first PENTASCALE is C. You can see the 5 notes of the C PENTASCALE — C D E F G – in pink/purple. The G is in purple because it is the first note of the next PENTASCALE, for G. Find the G A B C D, then next you will find the 5 notes of the D PENTASCALE, and so on.

Using the PENTASCALES chart at the back of the book you will find the PENTASCALES in the puzzle in this order: C, G, D, A, E, B and F#. The last note of F# is the C# in the upper right corner of the puzzle. Remember the squares must touch horizontally, vertically or diagonally. Check your work for p.34 on the ANSWERS page of my website, UpperHandsPiano.com

8.3 On the Banks of the Old Pedee, p. 35

On p.35 you are playing On the Banks of the Old Pedee, also known as On the Banks of the Ohio. It’s an old Appalachian “murder ballad” about a man who murders his girlfriend after she rejects his marriage proposal! Some of the versions have some pretty gruesome lyrics, but I only included the original nice verses!

8.4 Consistent Practice

In her book, Better Than Before, author Gretchen Rubin shows that we have much better success in doing something if we make it part of our routine, rather than trying to rely on self-discipline. I try to pair my piano/accordion practice with dinner (I practice right after dinner dishes are done), which is great except when we go out or I have a late lesson.

It might be better to pair it with something else earlier in the day. I schedule my morning exercise at 7:30 every day, and on Sundays I schedule my French practice and my cooking time in my calendar for the coming week.

There are some emotional roadblocks involved in piano practice. Sometimes it takes feeling in a good mood to be able to face the difficulties of playing the piano.

In his book The Now Habit, author Neil A. Fiore says, “People don’t procrastinate just to be ornery or because they’re irrational. They procrastinate because it makes sense, given how vulnerable they feel to criticism, failure, and their own perfectionism.”

Ouch. It’s so true. If we could just play the piano in the spirit of curiosity, just from an interest in learning, instead of judging our intelligence, ability, or self-worth by the speed of our progress, we might be more consistent.

When she was young, my daughter used to laugh every time she made mistakes when practicing Beethoven’s 5th on the piano. That was a real eye-opener for me. How wonderful it would be if we could just laugh at our mistakes! And to simply go on and correct them without self-recrimination.

I suggest that my students play the piano for as little as 10 minutes each day. Over the years we have done several 30-day challenges to Pledge To Play 10 Minutes A Day. During those 30 days, piano students and teachers have reported amazing progress, simply because they have played every day.

Scientific research bears this out – you will make better progress by playing daily for 10 minutes than from playing once a week for 70 minutes. That is because the brain learns better through daily exposure than from one long session.

Of course, playing more than 10 minutes is even better, but if you practice for at least 10 minutes every day, or for 15-20 minutes for at least 4 days per week, you’ll see real progress! Whatever you think you can commit to, schedule it in, make it a habit and stick to it. And if you didn’t get to practice on a day it was scheduled, put in your 10 minutes before you brush your teeth and go to bed. For more about consistent practice, watch my parting comments:

Passion Practice!

  1. Exercise #2 in F-sharp and D-flat, and review C-B occasionally (Appendix iii, and use the PENTASCALES chart at the back of the book if you are not sure about what the five notes in each position should be.)
  2. Goodnight Ladies p.34 this week, On the Banks of the Old Pedee p.35 next week. Please watch my demonstration videos 8.2 and 8.3 to check your rhythm.
  3. Review p.19-20.
  4. Review The Irish Washerwoman (if you have time).
