negative affirmations weight loss

Chances are if you’ve struggled with your weight, you’ve said some pretty mean and negative things to yourself over the years. Thoughts and words like…

  • I hate my body.
  • I’m fat.
  • I’m a failure.
  • No matter what I do I can’t lose weight.
  • I have no control over my eating.
  • I’m just a food addict.
  • I probably don’t even deserve to lose weight.

But did you know that every thought you think and every word you speak is an affirmation? Yep, the good stuff, but also the bad stuff.

Negative Affirmations

Many of us are familiar with the practice of using positive affirmations to enhance our lives. But what we don’t realize is that our negative thoughts and our negative self-talk are also affirmations.

Your body is listening to every thought you think and every word you speak. And if most of your language around your body and your food is negative, then it’s these negative thoughts and words that you are affirming, every single day.

It’s like having a vison board filled with what you DON’T want to have happen in your life. But because you’re constantly affirming these negative beliefs, they become your reality.

Changing your thoughts and words can help you lose weight.

Impact of Negative Affirmations

To emphasize how important our thoughts and words are, especially when it comes to weight loss, trying saying the negative statements from above. If these words aren’t the same words you normally say or think to yourself, substitute your own language.

  • I hate my body.
  • I’m fat.
  • I’m a failure.
  • No matter what I do I can’t lose weight.
  • I have no control over my eating.
  • I’m just a food addict.
  • I probably don’t even deserve to lose weight.

How did these negative words make you feel? Did you notice any discomfort in your body when you said them? Did any heavy emotions come up for you? Did these negative words motivate you or did they make you feel like heading for the couch with a bag of chips?

Now Let’s Switch Things Up!

Try saying the more positive phrases below, even if they don’t ring true for you right now. Say them with some passion and excitement, even if you have to fake it a bit!

  • I greatly appreciate my body and all that it does for me.
  • I am eager to experience the positive changes that are happening with my body.
  • I am successful.
  • I am worthy and deserving of a healthy body.
  • I am empowered to choose the foods that work best for me.
  • I am reaching the goals I have for my body from a place of love for myself.
  • I love that I’m feeling more in control of my food choices every day.

How did these positive words make you feel? My clients tell me they not only do feel “lighter” and more positive when they speak to themselves like this, but they are also more motivated to make changes.

Our Words Really Do Matter

Recently, a client told me by using the techniques she has learned from me that she is no longer doing any night time eating. And she had been night time eating for decades! In her words, she is no longer wanting to shove food in her face after dinner.

However, she also shared that this new behavior is not coming from the low vibe place she was in before, one that was filled with lots of deprivation and guilt and shame. She said she is now filled with the high vibe energies of optimism and appreciation for herself. Wow!
