Your Full Moon Horoscope for October Is Hyping You Up & Encouraging You to Be Your Best Self

It’s time to step into your authenticity and show up for yourself. Taking the lead and finding the will to compete will always require a certain amount of courage, but your full moon horoscopes for October 2022 are giving you the green light! After all, this full moon is in Aries. Allow this bold and powerful lunation to bring you the clarity and momentum you need to move forward. What era of your life are you ready to transition out of? Celestially fueled by the brilliant spark of Mars in Gemini, this month’s full moon in Aries is here to open your mind to the infinite possibilities, and illuminate a brand-new path that lies ahead.

Governed by red-hot Mars—planet conflict and passion—the best way to understand the impenetrable essence of Aries is by acknowledging the fact that its cardinal fire is powerful enough to initiate an entire journey through the zodiac. And while fellow cardinal signs—Cancer, Libra, Capricorn—initiate new cycles of life, Aries’ fire sign qualities have everything to do with the magic of fertility. After all, the first day of Aries season is always the first day of spring! Looking at this fire sign in a literal way can also put things into perspective, so imagine the blatant audacity and fearlessness required for Aries legend, Lady Gaga, to rock that meat-covered dress at the 2010 VMAs. I digress… but I rest my case. Here’s what you should know about the upcoming full moon in Aries:

STYLECASTER | Full Moon in Aries Horoscope

The moon is symbolic of our intuition, inner foundation and shadow self, so when it reaches its full moon phase each month, it puts a spotlight on everything that’s been hidden from our conscious mind. Luna also sits directly across the sun during this time, highlighting what lacks balance between our inner and outer world. The emotional tides in our bodies also rise, which makes us more sensitive to our surroundings than usual. On a brighter note, the full moon can also be a time of celebration, culmination and completion.

The full moon in Aries will take place on October 9 at 4:54 p.m. ET.

This month’s full moon will take place on October 9 at 4:55 p.m. ET at exactly 16 degrees Aries. Sitting in close proximity to Chiron retrograde, what this lunation is illuminating could feel bittersweet given the wounded healer’s influence, but it’s not as bad as it looks. On the contrary, there are other aspects working in our favor, so don’t be discouraged. Naturally, anything involving Chiron has to do with a wound and/or emotional trigger we carry within ourselves… and in the case of Aries, this “trigger” relates to our personal autonomy.

Despite the discomfort that could come with confronting these vulnerabilities within ourselves, recognizing what they are and where they stem from brings us closer to our authentic nature, and individual truth. The good news is, the sun will be sitting alongside Venus in Libra, presenting us with an opportunity to share, connect and relate to those who genuinely have our best interest at heart. In other words, this is equivalent to your “when all else fails” moment, as you are being reminded of the support you have around you, whether you were aware of this or not.

This is especially significant to consider with Mars in Gemini, given that this transit is notorious for being fickle, distracted and overly analytical. So, opening up to your friends and family about what it is you’re personally going through can actually turn out to be quite rewarding—at least when it comes to getting genuine feedback. Keep in mind, Mars is also in harmony with Saturn retrograde and the sun, which helps us set ideas in motion and find our sense of direction, despite the sensory overload brought to you by Mars in Gemini.

Are you ready to speak up, and stand up for what you believe in? Read your full moon horoscope for your sun sign, moon sign and rising sign below. Hint: Think back to the new moon in Aries that took place back in April 2022. Your full-circle moment is now loading.

Fortunately, with the sun sitting alongside amicable Venus in your relationship sector, you have the support of your peers, friends and significant others now more than ever. The moon will peak in Aries, while alongside Chiron retrograde, via your fourth house of family matters and emotional foundations. Are there emotional burdens resurfacing from your past? The moon also rules your relationship sector, so chances are you may be more argumentative—perhaps even about petty details—thanks to the influence of Mars. With the moon’s ruler, Mars, sizzling through Gemini, you could be hyper-focusing on the petty gossip, or the small talk surrounding you. This could be the result of a decision you made recently, but you’re in luck as the sun conjunct Venus is fully supportive of your unique belief systems, which encourages you to open up and share your thoughts.

Medicare – What’s It All About?

what is Medicare

In the U.S., reaching 65 is synonymous with becoming Medicare-eligible. Medicare is a national health insurance program started in 1965. It was created and administered by the U.S. government and is funded mainly by payroll taxes.

At its inception, “Original Medicare” covered hospital stays (Part A) and other expenses like doctor fees (Part B). Over the years, Congress added additional Medicare components:

  • Part C – Also known as “Medicare Advantage,” private insurers provide Parts A, B and D coverage according to government regulations.
  • Part D – Covers prescription drug costs. Private companies provide this benefit.

This brief description is but the tip of the iceberg. There is a lot more information you need to know to be a savvy Medicare beneficiary.

Is Medicare Mandatory?

Most of us have increasing medical needs as we age, so it makes sense to have health insurance. The U.S. government thinks so, too. Therefore, Medicare sign-up is mandatory. In addition, private health insurers depend on their policyholders 65 and older signing up for Medicare, so the insurers don’t have to cover 100% of health claims.

Should I Sign Up for Medicare?

The answers to these four questions can serve as a guide in determining if you should sign-up for Medicare.

  1. Have you turned 65? If so, most people need to sign up for Medicare Parts A and B. However, there are some exceptions.
  2. Are you 65, still working, and covered by an employer health plan? If not, you would be required to sign up for Parts A and B. Otherwise, go to Question 3.
  3. How many employees for the employer providing health insurance? If it is under 20 employees, signing up for Parts A and B is required at age 65. For organizations with 20 or more employees, go to Question 4.
  4. Does the employer’s health plan meet or exceed what Medicare provides? If not, you must sign up for Original Medicare (Parts A and B). On the other hand, if the health insurance plan DOES meet Medicare requirements, it provides “creditable coverage.” This means you can put off signing up for Medicare until employer coverage no longer applies.

How Do I Sign Up?

Most people don’t know that signing up for social security benefits also serves as enrollment for Medicare Part A and Part B. Otherwise, you can either click this link to Medicare.gov and follow the prompts for more information or call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213.

When Do I Sign Up for Medicare?

Initial Enrollment Period

This is a seven-month period that begins three months before the month of turning 65.

Special Enrollment Period

You may not sign up during the Initial Enrollment Period because you are covered under employer health insurance. The Special Enrollment Period lasts for eight months after employer coverage ends.

General Enrollment Period

This is for those who did not sign up for Medicare during the Initial Enrollment Period and are not eligible for a Special Enrollment Period. The General Enrollment Period occurs between January 1 through March 31 each year, with coverage starting on July 1 of that year.

Part D Enrollment

Medicare Part D covers prescription medications, but it is optional, unlike Parts A and B. However, sign-up occurs during regular Medicare Initial Enrollment or General Enrollment if you choose to have this coverage. Note that prescription drug coverage can also be obtained through Medicare Advantage Plans (see below), which have their own enrollment period.

Enrollment in Medicare Advantage Plans

Also known as Part C, private health insurers “bundle” Parts A, B and D according to Medicare rules. Enrollment for these plans occurs annually from January 1 – March 31. Beneficiaries with a Medicare Advantage Plan can switch to a different one or change to Original Medicare during this time.

What If I Don’t Sign Up?

There are penalties for not signing up for Medicare on time. The list can be found at Medicare.gov.

What Does Medicare Cost?

Medicare Part B and Part D both have monthly premium costs, but Part A does not. Also, Medicare coverage has deductibles, copays and coinsurance. Details for all of these costs can also be found at Medicare.gov. Medicare Advantage Plans have their own pricing policies.

One of the problems of Original Medicare (Parts A and B) is no limit on out-of-pocket expenses. These “gaps” in coverage can be expensive. As a result, private insurance companies offer Medicare Supplement Insurance, otherwise known as Medigap coverage. These plans have extra premiums on top of other Medicare premiums but help fill in some of the gaps. Note that Medigap is only available to supplement Original Medicare and cannot be used with Medicare Advantage Plans.

Some people cannot afford Medicare’s premiums, deductibles, copays or coinsurance. However, several programs are available to help pay these costs, like Medicaid, the Medicare Savings Program and the Extra Help program that helps with Part D prescription drug expenses.

Medicare is an excellent program for those over 65, but it can be complicated. Hopefully, this brief introduction throws some light on a complex subject. Look for my future blog posts on Sixty and Me for even more valuable details about Medicare. For an even deeper dive, check out my Medicare eBook at Cantissimo Senior Living.

Let’s Have a Conversation:

Your Life Seems Perfect – But Could You Be Hiding from Depression?

Your Life Seems Perfect – But Could You Be Hiding from Depression

Therapy at 60 can seem a bit
daunting. There’s a lot of life to talk about. Yet I’ve seen many older people delve
into emotional struggles quite successfully.

Yet therapy might not seem needed to
someone whose life looks perfect. “It’s my time to enjoy life. I wouldn’t
change a thing.” Maybe that’s true. If so, that’s wonderful.

But it’s also true that perfect-seeming
can be far from perfect.

Perfectly Hidden Depression

I’ve been researching what I term perfectly hidden depression (PHD) for several years. If that phrase
brings you relief, or intrigues you, then you may be someone whose secrets have
been hidden by a perfect-looking life.

If you’ve never been able to turn off
a nagging voice of self-criticism and shame, if you don’t know how to connect
with painful emotions, or believe that if your true feelings were known, you’d
lose others’ respect, then you might far too easily identify with PHD.

There are many reasons to break your
silence.

The Outside Doesn’t Match the Inside

The pressure you can feel is immense.
You can’t ever let anyone down because you’re only as important and successful
as your last project.

No matter that you get more tired
than you used to or you’re grieving friends that have died, you have to be the
penultimate grandmother, the consummate advocate for whatever cause you’ve
taken up.

You can be surrounded by friends,
involved in a job or multiple activities where you’re highly engaged – and no
one would look at you and believe you might be hiding shame, anxiety, or fatigue.

Even if you tried to tell them,
they’d likely say, “What, you? You’re the epitome of what every woman wants to
be at 60.” Your own loneliness – knowing that
no one knows the real you – could easily lead to despair.

Are You a Marie?

Let’s talk about Marie. She was 62
when she walked into my office.

I’d met Marie socially many times in
my hometown in Arkansas. When anyone spoke of her, her multiple accomplishments
were touted – having a highly successful legal career; building a non-profit support
program for young mothers with substance abuse issues; creating a loving family
and a network of great friends; even surviving the early death of her husband.

Everyone knew her as a fighter, a
brave heart – someone who cared and who could
influence other people to do the same.

She sat, smiling, in front of me, and
said, “I’ve heard you’re pretty direct.”

I laughed. “Yes, I have that
reputation.”

“Well that’s what I need. Because I
don’t understand, when I have so many blessings in my life, why I feel this
dread. Yes, I’ve had some health issues. But I’m okay now. It’s as if I can never
do enough. I feel panicked that I’m still trying to prove myself. And yet, I
know I have already proven myself. Why can’t I let up?”

When I asked about her past, she looked
away for a second, and then looked back. “I promised myself I’d be honest with you
today. But it’s very hard.”

An hour later, there were tears in
her eyes as she got up to leave. She’d been vulnerable and real. She’d realized
she’d always failed to earn her demanding mother’s love or her absentee
father’s attention.

The coping strategy that she’d
devised to handle her childhood pain, to be extremely accomplished and always
look in control, was now escalating into panic as she grew older. She began to
glimpse the damage done that she’d never allowed anyone, perhaps not even herself,
to see.

Self-compassion began in that hour.
“That’s what my constantly trying to ‘do more’ has meant, hasn’t it? Oh my
gosh. I want to stop. But I don’t know another way.”

What It All Means –
for You

Like Marie, you can choose to risk stirring that pot – to look into the recesses of your heart and mind for hurt and grief that you’ve had “no time for,” and to challenge the rigid rules that still govern you.

Because it is your time. It’s
time for freedom from shame.

It’s time to give yourself the gift
of vulnerability.

And it’s time for genuine
self-acceptance.

If you wonder where you might be on the spectrum of perfectly hidden depression, take this questionnaire.

If you want to delve deeper and understand how PHD might be affecting your life, you can read more on the topic in Perfectly Hidden Depression: How to Break Free from the Perfectionism that Masks Your Depression.

And if you’re looking for a therapist, why not check out Better Help’s online matching service. It’s always a good idea to have someone empathetic to share your burden.

Let’s Have a Conversation:

How often do you mask your true
feelings so you can appear perfect to the people around you? How often do you
find time for yourself? Are you hiding unresolved pain? Is your
perfectly-looking life too stressful? Please take a moment to share in the

Each of the 16 shades is super pigmented and has a matte finish. They glide on like butter and blend easily. The best part about reaching for a pencil rather than a powder or lipstick is that it allows you to have much more control over where you place product.

It might be hard to decide which shade to shop for, but the exact one Hailey uses in her TikTok tutorial is Anywhere Caffeine, which is currently available and on sale at Make Up For Ever.

“Wherever Walnut has been a go-to lip liner for years. I am obsessed with it!” raved another five-star reviewer. “It is the perfect nude! Not too brown, not too pink. It glides on perfectly, has amazing staying power, and the pencil is perfect and you have great control while applying it.”

For a plump pout like Hailey’s, stock up on Make Up For Ever’s multi-use liner while it’s on sale for a limited time. And while you’re at it, another Hailey Bieber-approved product by the brand is marked down.
