15 Places to Shop When You Want the Best K-Beauty Products

Those of us who have pledged allegiance to K-Beauty (and poured hard-earned dollars into it) understand that the East Asian beauty influence is a total game-changer — particularly in the skincare field. If your medicine cabinet is filled with cute packaging containing face masks, lotions and powders, you’re deep in the game. The only downside to this K-beauty addiction? Getting your fix and knowing exactly where to buy Korean beauty products in the U.S.

You can find lots of your favorite products on eBay at really reasonable and competitive prices, but the catch is that it’s hard to tell if the product is genuine, and it takes forever to get to your door since they ship from, well, Asia. Bookmark this handy list of all the places to buy K-beauty goods with US distributors so you can stock up on everything you love, ASAP. Some places you already visit, such as Sephora and Ulta (surprise!), while others you might never have heard of before. Sit back and shop right from your couch or your phone and grab these stellar K-beauty products.

Our mission at STYLECASTER is to bring style to the people, and we only feature products we think you’ll love as much as we do. d’Alba Piedmont is a STYLECASTER sponsor, however, all products in this article were independently selected by our editors. Please note that if you purchase something by clicking on a link within this story, we may receive a small commission of the sale.

You’ll find a highly curated selection of Korean skincare products from brands such as d’Alba Piedmont and Neogen, as well as color cosmetics. If it’s on Soko Glam, it’s already a cult product in Korea. Not sure what to try? Check out “The Klog,” where Cho writes about all the new products she’s trying, star ingredients to look out for, and K-beauty trends. She’s even launched her own skincare line, Then I Met You.

Glow Recipe

Sarah Lee and Christine Chang founded Glow Recipe after working together at L’Oreal. The site first started as a K-beauty e-retailer stocking other brands, but as success grew, so did a brand new brand: Glow Recipe Skincare. The duo has had huge success with its watermelon and avocado-based lines.

The Creme Shop.

The Crème Shop

This ultra-affordable Korean beauty brand is known for its cute collabs with Hello Kitty, Trolls and Line Friends. There’s almost nothing this company doesn’t make — in adorable packaging, of course — including skincare, color cosmetics, body products, spa accessories, beauty tools, face masks and more. Almost every best-selling products costs less than $10.

Peach & Lily

A playground for skincare junkies, Peach & Lily is your go-to for highly vetted K-beauty products, including its own namesake brand. Founded by Alicia Yoon, a Harvard Business grad who went from beauty enthusiast to skincare expert, she fills the digital shelves of Peach & Lily with products she’s tried herself and sourced from her many trips to South Korea. The best part of this store? The variety. You’ll find lesser-known K-beauty brands (like Shangpree) alongside ones you’ve probably seen around (like Banila Co.), plus the stellar in-house line, so you’ll always have something new and amazing to try.

Missha

Famed for its skincare, Missha’s US webshop is the ultimate K-beauty destination. The best part of this store? Not only is shipping incredibly fast, but it always seems to be having a sale, offering up to 40 percent off the products you already wanted to try (hint: we suggest the cult BB creams). It’s also worth signing up for their newsletter so that you’ll know the second new products come in.

Dermstore

You might not expect Dermstore to be your spot for K-beauty goodies, but the luxe retailer has some of the best brands around. While you’re picking up Olaplex faves and awesome value sets, be sure to add Korean products from CosRx, 3Lab and Boscia, too. You won’t be sorry.

Don’t think Target is just here for your drugstore beauty needs. There are those too, of course. But while you’re picking up your usual favorites (plus, new clothes and toilet paper and basically everything else!), click on over to the Korean beauty section and find stellar brands including Sweet Chef, I Dew Care and AHC.

Nordstrom

Like Target, Nordstrom stocks some of the best beauty brands around. But unlike Target, Nordstrom’s are of the luxe variety. That goes for Korean beauty, too. We’re big fans of Amorepacific and Sulwhasoo, two Korean skincare brands that aren’t cheap but are worth the money. Keep an eye on them during Nordstrom’s big yearly sales.

Urban Outfitters

The beauty section of Urban Outfitters has become its own oasis of fun, international beauty brands. It offers a decent amount of K-beauty color cosmetics and skincare from bigger brands like TonyMoly and Hanskin. If you’re a K-beauty newbie, this is a great first stop. Not all UO stores carry every K-beauty brand featured on its website, but you can get a touch and feel of the products you’re considering, all while you’re browsing for your next ‘fit.

3 Reasons That You Should Write Your Life Story

Write-Your-Life-Story

Every person has a unique life story. There is no such thing as two life stories being the same. As a life story writing coach and memoir teacher, I believe everyone should take the time to put their story on paper.

Forgive yourself for past mistakes, embrace the past sorrow, pat yourselves on the back for the good times, and sit down and write about your life.

Why do I say that with such urgency? Because writing your life story is not only a gift to yourself, but also a gift for family and friends, as well as generations of families not yet born.

Let’s examine why you should write your life story:

Write Your Life Story for Yourself

Firstly, write the story for yourself. By writing the stories from your life you help yourself form a clearer understanding of who you are and how you got to where you are. You learn about yourself, and often bring closure to issues. Treat yourself to the experience.

I wrote the memoir Eating the Walls after the death of my husband and raising two girls alone. Through writing the memoir I was able to understand with great clarity why I had made the choices I did. Writing our life stories is cathartic and enlightening.

Write to Leave a Legacy

Secondly, leave a legacy for family and friends. In today’s fast-paced world, there is never enough time to sit down with family and tell them about your childhood, career or romances. Your written life story can give them a book about who you are and where you came from.

I often wish I had thought to ask my mother more about her life prior to marriage and family. I wish I had the opportunity to learn about that woman. Sadly, I thought about it too late.

Maybe your family does not have the time to read your stories today, but there will come a time in their life when they would want to know who you were and why you made the choices you did.

Write to Preserve Family History

How did you experience the history of your time? Preserve those stories by writing about them. Black and white television with no remote controller! No cell phones – remember the phone was attached to the wall!

Share your version of who you are!

A few years back, completed a memoir with a 91-year-old man. We met weekly, with his daughter recording the stories, many of which she had never heard before. Every time we met, laughter and tears filled the room as we weaved together a memoir that children and grandchildren will have forever.

The process was as enjoyable as the end result. At our last meeting, the daughter said to me, “My father has a new love of life. For the first time in his life, he speaks about how proud he is of his achievements, and how he is ready to forgive himself for his mistakes because he now realizes that he tried his best. After witnessing how my father has changed, I believe the most healing thing a person can do is share their story.”

How do you start to write?

Create a Writing Schedule

10 minutes a day or a page a day is better than nothing. Use the old-fashioned egg timer and just write!

Create a Structure

You can write your story in different ways: chronologically, by life themes, or from your senses.

Chronological

When writing chronologically, I recommend that you first make a life chart. On the chart write your age in five-year intervals – 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, etc.

Next to the number note any major life events or branching points, when you could have gone one way or the other. This will allow you to see your life clearly. Each week you can focus on writing about one life event.

Life Themes

Here are some life themes that the majority of people experience – childhood family, romance, education, career, spirituality, health, gender, adult family, friends. Make lists of events under each theme, and then write the individual stories.

Senses

Our senses are wonderful memory closets. A certain scent or taste can often bring back a flood of memories. Play music that evokes memories and then begin to write; look at a picture from the past and write; open an old bottle of perfume and write. Cook a favorite childhood food and then write. Allow your senses to open up the stories of your life.

Stay tuned for my next article which will focus on where to begin your memoir and how to write the first chapter.

Are you interested in writing your life story? Many people want to write their life stories but never start. Have you ever tried? What stops you from starting? Please join the conversation.

Erika Jayne’s Leather and Tweed Skirt

Erika Jayne’s Leather and Tweed Skirt

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 11 Episode 13 Fashion

On tonight’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Erika Jayne walks into the party wearing her leather and tweed skirt and certainly seemed to turn heads. And from the looks of the preview maybe she doesn’t owe that to her super cute skirt for once and just to the fact that she showed up? Either way I’m glad she did.

Now, like the rest of the RHOBH ladies,  Idon’t know where Erika’s money is at. But I can tell you where mine is and it’s invested in a Style Stealer of her skirt and headband.

Sincerely Stylish,

Jess

Mature Age Fitness – A Comprehensive Guide to Getting Started (VIDEO)

starting fitness mature age

Think you are too old to move and work out? There are some definite biological differences between your 20s, 50s and 70s and of course your life is different. You may have more responsibilities and less time for yourself.

This does not necessarily mean you cannot create some fantastic gains in your strength and fitness over a period.

Setting yourself small goals to start, i.e., I will aim to lift weights/walk twice every week for the next month, will pay off in the long run as you create a habit in consistency which builds long-term sustainability in strength and fitness.

Where Do I Start?

Firstly, I do recommend you hire a good coach, either in person or online, to really guide and support you.

However, if you want to go it alone and/or have been dabbling in the gym or your chosen sport/movement and you want some real, tangible, and actionable tips to help you improve your performance, then read on.

I want to firstly start by talking about the Mind-Body Connection. We are all wired to feel; however, life can get in the way, and we forget to tune inward. I find that many mature women have been effectively tuning out of their own body for many years, and it is then my job to teach them to tune back in. This brings me to my first lesson.

Be Fully Present at Your Workout

Feel your Mind-Body Connection and trust it. Tune in, don’t mindlessly work out, feel each muscle doing its thing.

What is each muscle telling you? How does each movement feel? Does it feel like it’s working, or does it feel weird? Do you like the exercise? If not, why? Is it because it is hard? Or do you need another way of doing it? Do you need to slow down a bit?

Trust your body to know and tell you when it’s time to stop or try a different way. If an exercise feels wrong, then it may not a great fit for you, and it’s likely you won’t continue with it because it does not bring you joy.

Before Each and Every Workout

Ask yourself these questions:

1. How is your energy today?

2. How do your muscles feel today?

3. Are you tight or sore from other workouts?

4. Maybe you didn’t sleep well or your neck hurts from your pillow. How can you work around that?

5. Do you feel stressed or anxious today?

6. Are you well fed?

7. Have you had enough water?

Yes, this list is long, and why do you need to ask yourself these questions? Because THEY matter, and YOU matter.

This list of questions can be the difference between a great workout or a not-so-great workout. It can also help you to decide what type of workout you will be doing today.

Tired/Stressed?

Consider doing a shorter and lower intensity workout.

Sore/Stiff?

Consider working different muscles or changing your session up to incorporate more stretching.

Lack of Food/Water?

Not an ideal situation to go into a movement session and one that needs to be rectified quickly. Consider waiting until you can eat or hydrate. You will only end up feeling nauseated, depleted, and lightheaded.

Feel Like a Change Today?

Play-based movement is great for a change.

Grab a ball and go outside and kick it around or throw it at a wall. Even better, take your grandchild, partner, friend, dog outside with you, and throw the ball to each other.

Don’t have a ball? Try some balancing work: see how long you can stand on 1 foot, hop from side to side, and try and lift off from your non-dominant side.

You get the idea, just play and experiment. All movement is good! And don’t have any specific expectation. Just release energy by playing.

I will often schedule sessions like these into clients’ programs because they are fun but also a great way to relieve stress and anxiety, further enhance the mind-body connection and work on agility, mindfulness, and coordination.

It does not always need to be about performance!

The Starter Motor – Let’s Rev That Engine Up!

Warm up at least 10 min. Give it more time if you can, but this is non-negotiable if you want to stay in your choice of movement long term.

For mobility exercises, here is one of my favourites:

If you’re doing weight training, do the same lifts you intend to do in your session – with no weight.

Get out a resistance band and play around with it.

Do some gentle cardio like the bike, treadmill, walk, step, etc.

Make sure you feel warm and ready.

Aim for a nice steady breath without feeling huffy-puffy or feeling like your muscles are burning.

The Main Event

Now you are ready to GO!

Enjoy your movement session – and I mean really enjoy it.

It’s Cool to Cool Down

It is very cool to cool down. It is not cool to do the session then jump in your car and head home. Why? Because you just missed the best part of the whole session!

If you are doing a run/bike ride etc., aim to slow down your pace somewhat and slowly ease to a stop. It’s not great for you to go from full speed to stop in 3 seconds.

Wind it down slowly.

If resistance training, wind it down with some gentler lifts towards the end of your session.

Then it is time to stretch. This is your time to thank your body and be grateful for what it has just done. This is your time to reflect on what you just did and be proud.

Aim for at least 5 min of stretching which can also encompass mindfulness and belly breathing. Here is one of my favourites:

After Your Workout

People often tell me their muscles feel sore in a good way when describing their next day stiffness/soreness. This is when you know you have done a good workout. Your muscles may be sore but should not be over-sore or painful. You will know if something does not feel right. Tune in and TRUST your body.

And in case you do not feel stiffness or soreness it does not mean that you need to work harder or that your workout did not count.

Sometimes we have a physiological response such as soreness and stiffness and other times we don’t. There are many factors as to why you do not feel sore; however, it not being a good enough workout or you not pushing yourself enough is not one of those reasons.

You Are Everything

You know the saying, “treat your body like a temple”? Well, it’s true. We only have one body. We only have one lifetime. Be kind to your body, give back to it. Speak to it gently. Your time is NOW.
