Gigi Hadid’s Favorite Makeup-Removing Cleanser Is Just $7

Gigi Hadid has been laying low since giving birth to her baby girl Khai in late September. She and partner Zayn Malik have been staying in the Hadid’s country home in Bucks County, PA (weirdly, where I grew up) through quarantine and the model giving birth. Four months later, she’s out and about with a brand-new Vogue cover and a corresponding Beauty Secrets video. I love this series because we get a behind-the-scenes look at what products celebs really use and they’re often ones I love, too. Like Hadid’s favorite Cetaphil cleanser. You can find a few affordable favorites you might not have tried before.

The model loves a good drugstore staple. “Whenever I’m working a lot, or I’m wearing a lot of makeup, or I’m coming from a shoot, I use Cetaphil because I just feel like it really cleans my skin,” she said in the video. “I’ve always really gone for drugstore skincare…I really just wanted good products and I don’t always think that you have to pay a lot for that.”

Our mission at STYLECASTER is to bring style to the people, and we only feature products we think you’ll love as much as we do. Please note that if you purchase something by clicking on a link within this story, we may receive a small commission of the sale.

Hadid is right. While I would argue some pricey skincare is worth the money, a lot of it is very similar to what you’ll find on drugstore shelves if you look closely at the ingredients. This cleanser is gentle and fragrance-free so it’s unlikely to irritate even the most sensitive skin. Though she uses it to remove makeup and cleanse in her everyday normal life, Hadid revealed she changed up her skincare a bit while pregnant.

“While I was pregnant, I really moved towards really clean products, natural,” she says. “So I used a brand called Oliveda and it’s just olive tree extract and they have everything from cleanser to moisturizer, oils. Now that’s in winter and very cold on the East Coast, Hadid has moved onto heavier lotions for dry skin. She’s loving two everyday essentials: Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream ($48 at Sephora) and Odacité Mo+P Very Dry Skin Moringa Petitgrain Serum Concentrate ($46 at Detox Market). Both are incredible for dry and/or chapped skin.

Hadid is also dealing with chapped lips during the winter, so she applies Lano Strawberry 101 Ointment Multi-Balm ($13.50 at Ulta) and adds a little to the dry parts of her face, too. Now, her skin is ready for makeup. “I really like a base that doesn’t look dry,” she says. “So I like a little bit of a glow. But I obviously don’t wanna look oily, so I’ll kind of show you a mixture that I’ve come up with.”

First, Hadid dots on Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow Face Primer ($55 at Sephora). Then, she applies Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter ($44 at Sephora) under her eyes and around her face. The Maybelline spokesmodel then applies the brand’s Fit Me Matte + Poreless Liquid Foundation ($5.28 at Amazon) and blends them all together with her fingers. Then, it’s time for concealer. “I like to let concealer sit for a little bit because I think that the formula becomes thicker,” she says. Not surprisingly, she reaches for Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer ($7.49 at Amazon).

Next comes brows. She uses the Maybelline TattooStudio Tattoo Brow 36HR Pigment Brow Pencil ($8.99 at Amazon) to fill in any sparse areas, though she doesn’t have many. “Someone once told me, I can’t remember who, maybe my mom, was just like on set never let anyone pluck your eyebrows,” she says. Hadid favors a fluffy brow so she finishes with Patrick Ta Major Brow Shaping Wax ($22 at Sephora). Read our review of the makeup artist product, here.

Hadid sets her makeup with Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Powder ($5.28 at Amazon). She lightly contours her face with Maybelline New York City Bronzer ($12.08 at Amazon). To keep the neutral vibes going, she applies Maybelline Nudes of New York Eyeshadow Palette ($13.99 at Ulta) to her lids and up near her brow bone to open her eyes.

“This is strange, but I do mascara then I finish my blush and highlighter because then I like to go back to the mascara, and reapply,” says Hadid. She curls her lashes first with Tweezerman Rose Gold Classic Lash Curler ($14.54 at Amazon) and applies Maybelline Falsies Lash Lift Mascara ($8.98 at Amazon). Here’s where she goes back to her face with blush. “I like to smile and start on the apples of my cheeks and then kind of blend it out,” she says, using Stila Covertible Color ($25 at Ulta).

For a blinding highlight on her cheekbones and down her nose, Hadid uses Maybelline FaceStudio Master Strobing Stick Illuminating Highlighter ($7.99 at Amazon). When she’s feeling “extra poppin,’” she adds Maybelline FaceStudio Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter ($5.36 at Amazon) on top.

Finally, Hadid finishes her tutorial with her lips. “I used to be much more of like a matte lipstick person and I feel like I’m appreciating a little sparkle and shine nowadays,” she says. She lines her lips with Patrick Ta Monochrome Moment – Precision Lip Crayon ($26 at Sephora) and fills them in with Maybelline New York Color Sensational Gold Lipstick Metallic Lipstick ($5.85 at Amazon.) She finishes with a plumping gloss: Maybelline Lifter Gloss With Hyaluronic Acid ($6.98 at Amazon).

Though Hadid looks gorgeous, she’s quick to admit this isn’t her everyday routine, especially as a new mom. “I know that sometimes I’m not washing my face these days, I don’t brush my hair for a few days,” she says. “So I just wanna remind those of you watching that this is not how I look every day. Sometimes I go a week without touching makeup, or, you know, just putting on deodorant is like, we’re doing great. So, just remind yourself that you’re doing the best you can, you’re doing amazing, and to just give yourself grace. And if you brushed your hair this week, I’m really proud of you.”

Whitney Rose’s Black Quilted Jacket

Whitney Rose’s Black Quilted Jacket

Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 1 Finale Fashion

Whitney Rose’s black quilted jacket visiting Heather Gay at Beauty Lab is the kind of basic I need in Austin to cover up when I’m running errands or on a walk when it’s a bit chilly. I’ve seen people wearing them for years and they still holds up. I’m finding the need for a mid-weight, casual, jacket here far more than I did in Chicago and Detroit, where I just need a full on C-O-A-T in capital letters. And this one is water repellent, so maybe I can even help dry the tears of a frenemy if they give me an appropriate apology, that is.

Meredith Marks’ Crystal Face Mask and Blazer

Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 1 Finale Fashion

Meredith Marks’ crystal face mask and blazer on tonight’s Real Housewives of Salt Lake City Season 1 finale is certainly a look that will go down in Real Housewives fashion history whether it’s your cup of tea or not. You’ll see it at the next Bravocon, you’ll see it recreated it in costumes and you’ll see the edgiest Housewives fans take a page out of Meredith’s book and rock it IRL.

It actually reminds me of the time I want to a Kanye West concert and he wore a mask on stage through the whole..entire…concert. After he started dating Kim, as you could have guessed. Super annoying when you go “see” someone in concert. But thanks to the previews of tonight’s Beauty Lab party, I know that Meredith makes a statement, and lets us see her gorgeous face. Now that’s Housewives History in the making.

6 Ways Stress Affects Your Body More After 60

reducing stress

Stress can be an interesting phenomenon. In many ways, experiencing it throughout our day-to-day lives can be a good thing – pushing us to become more adaptable, and helping us to become more resilient.

As we get older though, and regardless of the reason behind its emergence, coping with stress can begin to feel more difficult than it once had. That’s why it’s important to have some good coping mechanisms in place for dealing with any stress that may come along.

On top of this, as we get older – and especially as we pass 60 – stress can begin to have different effects on the body. But what exactly are these, and what impacts can they have on your overall health?

Below I’ve outlined six of the most common ways in which stress can affect your body more after 60, to give you an idea of some signs to look out for.

Difficulty Sleeping

A common way in which stress can affect you more after you turn 60 is by disrupting your sleep pattern. Experiencing emotional stress can be particularly problematic, as a high production of stress-related hormones can make it difficult for your brain to switch off at night.

This can in turn lead to further knock-on effects. A good night’s sleep is one of the most effective ways to tackle stress, as it helps to flush out unwanted stress hormones. Therefore, not being able to get enough snooze time can lead to even more stress.

If you find that you’re having difficulties sleeping, then it’s important to find mechanisms for easing your stress levels. One great method for this is regular exercise. Something as simple as going for a long walk can help to release these unwanted hormones.

Suppressing the Immune System

Regardless of age, stress can decrease the overall effectiveness of the immune system. Simply put, this means that when stress levels are high, you’re a lot more vulnerable to becoming ill.

As we get older, our immune system naturally becomes weaker and less efficient. Therefore, a combination of a naturally-weaker immune system and high stress levels, makes people over 60 particularly susceptible to falling ill.

High stress levels in those within this age group can also extend sickness recovery times, as well as increase susceptibility to falling ill in the future.

Heart Complications

As you begin to feel stressed and anxious, the body will increase its production of adrenaline, in turn raising your blood pressure and cholesterol levels. For those over 60, this can significantly increase the risk of experiencing a heart complication or even suffering from something like a sudden heart attack.

Because of this – and especially for those already suffering from a heart condition or who are undergoing a form of cardiovascular treatment – it’s really important to try and keep your stress levels to a minimum.

A good way to bring down your stress levels, and help to lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, is through relaxation techniques. This can be something simple, like deep breathing, reading a good book, or listening to music. If you’re up for more, try activities such as yoga or meditation as these can be great ways to lower your stress.

Onset Diabetes

Recent research has suggested that high stress levels can play a role in the development of Type 2 diabetes. It’s been contented that a significant presence of stress hormones may prevent the cells in the pancreas – responsible for the production of insulin – from functioning properly. This in turn can lead to the development of Type 2 diabetes.

It’s also common to overeat during times of significant stress. Turning to comfort foods that are high in fat and sugar may help to ease stress in the short term, but this can have the knock-on effect of weight gain and potentially the development of diabetes.

This doesn’t mean having to cut these foods out entirely, but try to ensure that you maintain a healthy diet overall to keep your fat, salt, and sugar intake levels low.

Feeling Unwell

Feeling “sick to the stomach” is a common way in which stress can affect your body. As we get older though, blood flow and areas around the stomach become more delicate, meaning that this reaction to stress can be potentially more problematic.

High stress levels can lead to more complicated gastrointestinal issues such as irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, or heartburn. However, it’s worth noting that while high levels of stress cannot cause stomach ulcers, they can worsen them.

If you’re feeling unwell for prolonged periods, it may be worth visiting your doctor. They will be able to provide more specific advice for your individual situation. Following this, I’d recommend going for regular check-ups at least once a year to help prevent the presence of any future illness.

Development of Dementia

A few studies have been carried out looking at the links between high stress levels and the development of dementia. Certain types of dementia – Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia in particular – have been found to have been accelerated by the presence of stress.

However, research into this correlation is still in its early stages. It’s difficult to determine the exact role that stress has on the development of dementia, especially as there are a number of other factors that can play a role here.

With that being said, it’s still important to take steps to try and reduce any stress you may have, as this will significantly benefit your overall health in the long run.

Tips for Reducing Stress

As I mentioned previously, there are a number of easy and effective ways to bring down your stress levels. Below I’ve laid out some recommendations that you can try.

Regular Exercise

This doesn’t have to mean strenuous aerobic work. Simply going for a walk can really help to release built-up stress hormones.

Relaxation Techniques

Try activities such as meditation or yoga to bring down your heart rate and help your mind to escape from the issues that are making you feel stressed.

Write Down Your Worries

Writing down the things that are causing you stress and talking them through with a loved one can really help to ease anxiety.

Healthy Diet

While consuming snacky foods and alcohol might help in the short term, it will only make things worse in the long run. Maintaining a balanced diet can really help to create a healthy body and a healthy mind.

Relax to Music

Listening to music can be a simple yet great way to help your mind escape from the issue that is causing stress.

How often do you feel stress eating at you? What is causing it? Have you found any particular method for coping with stress? Please share with our community and let’s support each other!
