Target Is Making It Super Easy to Identify Black-Owned Beauty Brands

I’ve been a beauty editor for more than a decade so I generally know what brands are Black-owned and which ones aren’t even if they cater to the Black community. But even I need a reminder while shopping. Target’s Black-owned brand badge came just in time. While we’re all making an effort to shop more from this community, Target is helping make it a little easier. It’s not perfect (I have some issues with this badge and I’ll explain) but it’s a great step in the right direction.

You might not even realize Target has many Black-owned beauty brands. The retailer has been doing a great job investing in textured haircare, vibrant beauty products and clean skin care from both new and established Black founders. Because don’t forget. According to the Washington Post, only 1 percent of venture capital dollars went to Black start-up founders in 2018. It’s that much harder for people of color and women to get funding and start a company.

This new online badge will help you be able to find these brands but like I said, it’s not perfect. Here’s what it looks like on our favorite, The Lip Bar. It’s right where you’re used to seeing the Clean and Vegan tags.

The badge says “Black Owned or Founded Brand.” That means, brands here might not be owned by Black people anymore and that’s something to keep in mind. If you want to support a Black-owned company, do a little extra research. Brands such as Shea Moisture were bought by huge corporations like Unilever (in the case of Shea Moisture) and that’s who you’re giving your money to. These brands are still great and there’s nothing wrong with shopping them. But it helps to know exactly where your money is going.

Check out our list of some of our favorite Black-owned Target brands here. Go shop away!

A Healthy Chocolate Mousse Recipe? Yes, It Does Exist!

Chocolate-Mousse-Recipe

What if I told you there was a healthy chocolate mousse recipe? No “what if?” There is, and I’m sharing it right here!

Finding a Balance with Treats. But Who Is Always Balanced? NOT ME!

In my lifestyle program, I share with my community the idea of having a healthy “balance” of 80/20 when it comes to nutrition: 80% eating healthy and 20% allowing treats a few times a week to satisfy a craving for sweets or pizza (or burgers and fries, etc.).

That’s great and all but I, like you, have a hankering for something sweet more times than a couple times a week. Yet I want to keep on track with my health goals. This little gem of a recipe can take care of the times my balance is off. Ladies, I’ve got you covered for when those hormones aren’t behaving.

Avocado: A Healthy Fat to Keep You on Track

When you read the ingredients for this chocolate mousse recipe, don’t freak out when you see a whole avocado for one serving. Healthy doses of healthy fats (which an avocado is) cannot be compared to unhealthy fats like the fats in fast food.

Also, if you are having a craving for something of a sweet attack, the healthy fat content should help feeling full and satisfied for a few hours. If you’re like how I used to be, it takes the whole pint of Ben and Jerry’s to kind of satisfy the craving. Here is a great snippet from a great article on avocadoes from the Medical News Today website:

“Although most of the calories in an avocado come from fat, don’t shy away! Avocados are full of healthy, beneficial fats that help to keep you full and satiated. When you consume fat, your brain receives a signal to turn off your appetite. Eating fat slows the breakdown of carbohydrates into sugar, which helps to keep sugar levels in your blood stable.

“Fat is essential for every single cell in your body. In fact, over 60 percent of your brain is made of fat. Eating healthy fats supports skin health, enhances the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. It may even help boost your immune system.

“Do not be fooled by fat-free and low-fat products, or shy away from foods like avocados and nuts that are full of healthy fats. Ever since the low-fat fad started in the 1950s, we have only become fatter. Manufacturers often just replace the fat in reduced and fat-free products with sugar.”

If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, STYLECASTER may receive an affiliate commission.

Stretch marks, sagging, and wrinkles are all a natural part of cleavage—there’s truly nothing to be ashamed about. But if you’re looking to show that area a little extra TLC, there’s nothing wrong with that either. In fact, it’s highly beneficial to apply skincare to the chest since it’s a thinner, delicate area more susceptible to change than other places on the body. Luckily, targeted treatments, such as the BodyBlendz Booby Mask, are here to help.

Made specifically to treat your boobs, the nourishing and firming mask brings a handful of appealing benefits: It removes impurities, prevents breakouts and irritation, minimizes discoloration, evens out skin tone and combats dullness. But perhaps most enticing, it promises to naturally firm and lift the area to bring ‘perkier, radiant’ breasts—and its band of transformative ingredients are to thank.

Pure Australian white clay quickly sheds dead skin and improves firmness and texture across the chest, while turmeric brings plenty of antioxidants that reduce the appearance of sun damage and dark spots and boost elasticity on aging skin. Lastly, Pentavitin, a 100 percent naturally derived plant extract, provides up to 24 hours of hydration, and macadamia oil, shea butter and cocoa butter leave behind softer, smoother results in their wake.

Per the brand, it takes 10 minutes or less for the mask to work; massage it onto damp or dry skin for a couple of minutes before leaving on for a minimum of five minutes to let the formula sink deep into the skin. For the best results, apply the mask one to two times per week.

Intrigued? Scoop the BodyBlendz Booby Mask for $40—we have a feeling you won’t regret it. While you’re at it, add the matching firming Booty Clay Mask to your cart, too.
