What if I told you there was a healthy chocolate mousse recipe? No “what if?” There is, and I’m sharing it right here!
Finding a Balance with Treats. But Who Is Always Balanced? NOT ME!
In my lifestyle program, I share with my community the idea of having a healthy “balance” of 80/20 when it comes to nutrition: 80% eating healthy and 20% allowing treats a few times a week to satisfy a craving for sweets or pizza (or burgers and fries, etc.).
That’s great and all but I, like you, have a hankering for something sweet more times than a couple times a week. Yet I want to keep on track with my health goals. This little gem of a recipe can take care of the times my balance is off. Ladies, I’ve got you covered for when those hormones aren’t behaving.
Avocado: A Healthy Fat to Keep You on Track
When you read the ingredients for this chocolate mousse recipe, don’t freak out when you see a whole avocado for one serving. Healthy doses of healthy fats (which an avocado is) cannot be compared to unhealthy fats like the fats in fast food.
Also, if you are having a craving for something of a sweet attack, the healthy fat content should help feeling full and satisfied for a few hours. If you’re like how I used to be, it takes the whole pint of Ben and Jerry’s to kind of satisfy the craving. Here is a great snippet from a great article on avocadoes from the Medical News Today website:
“Although most of the calories in an avocado come from fat, don’t shy away! Avocados are full of healthy, beneficial fats that help to keep you full and satiated. When you consume fat, your brain receives a signal to turn off your appetite. Eating fat slows the breakdown of carbohydrates into sugar, which helps to keep sugar levels in your blood stable.
“Fat is essential for every single cell in your body. In fact, over 60 percent of your brain is made of fat. Eating healthy fats supports skin health, enhances the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. It may even help boost your immune system.
“Do not be fooled by fat-free and low-fat products, or shy away from foods like avocados and nuts that are full of healthy fats. Ever since the low-fat fad started in the 1950s, we have only become fatter. Manufacturers often just replace the fat in reduced and fat-free products with sugar.”
