Crystal Kung Minkoff’s Green Floral Print Top

Crystal Kung Minkoff’s Green Floral Print Top

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 11 Episode 12 Fashion

Crystal Kung Minkoff looked so chic in her green floral print top. She has been killing it with her looks this season, despite what Sutton some may say. I love her style because sometimes it’s pretty $$$, but sometimes it’s pretty affordable. This top for example was affordable, but of course it’s sold out. That’s okay because we have the Style Stealers that are just as pretty.

Sincerely Stylish,

Jess

The Styling Tool Hailey Bieber Uses To Create Wavy ‘Date Night’ Hair

We didn’t expect Hailey Bieber to become a YouTube star in 2021. But she continues to put out interesting, well-made and produced videos giving us a peek inside her glam, as well as talks with some really interesting celebs. On Wednesday, Bieber’s hair was the talk of the show, as she shared her wavy-hair routine for her 1.2 million followers.

“A lot of you have been asking to see how I do my own hair when I do my own hair so check it out,” she says in the video. When she doesn’t have hairstylist Jen Atkin around, this is how Bieber gets those cool-girl, California waves. (No doubt, Atkin taught her everything she knows.)

Our mission at STYLECASTER is to bring style to the people, and we only feature products we think you’ll love as much as we do. Please note that if you purchase something by clicking on a link within this story, we may receive a small commission of the sale.

Bieber says she starts by using a volumizing leave-in product. Not surprisingly, she likes Atkin’s haircare line, especially Ouai’s Volume Spray ($26 at Ulta). Then, she blow-dries her hair. Here’s where the waves come in. She sprays on a texturizing product, which looks to use like one from R+Co. She grabs her Dyson Corrale hair straightener ($499.99 at Dyson), which she says she “also got from Jen.”

Bieber sections her hair and grabs a small piece. She takes the straightener and does a wave motion down her strands, creating a mermaid wave. She then adds more texture spray for grip. “I decided to go with this down wavy textured hair for you guys because this is usually just my go-to when I have the time to do it myself,” she says. “If I was like going out for a dinner or like going out on date night, this is typically the hair that I’m going to do for an evening of fun.”

Bieber gives tips throughout the routine. The Corrale is a straightener but it’s great for creating all types of waves, too. “Be careful about like not squeezing the iron too tight because even in that piece you could see that like it dented a little bit in my hair,” she says. Bieber prefers a messy, “undone” look when she goes out instead of bombshell waves. Watch her entire routine above and grab the Corrale at Dyson to copy her look.

Remove These 7 Things from Your Dating Profile – ASAP!

dating profile

I read an interesting article today on cnbc.com about a CEO who reads more than 1,000 resumes a year, discussing various items to remove immediately from your CV/Resume. This hit home for me as a dating coach as I want singles to have the best chance possible of meeting that someone special!

As a professional dating consultant, I’ve talked with over 33,000+ singles over the past 20 years about how to best market yourself online, both creatively and truthfully.

So, it may be time to hop online and strike the following off your profile:

Things You Really Do Not Do… Or Think You Will Finally Start Doing This Month

These include things like fencing, competitive swimming, tennis, ice skating, working on a novel, etc. Ok, a few of these refer to the Olympic games, but I find clients love watching sports and immediately think, “Huh, I’m totally going to take up archery or skeet shooting” and suddenly, it appears online as one of their interests!

Fleeting, as it will most likely be forgotten in a month, and do you want to explain yourself when a World Fencing Champion reaches out to you for a date?

Remove These Photos

Any bathroom mirror selfie, car selfie, ANY selfie, a group shot of 8 people (which one is you???), sunglass/hat shots (ok, one is fine), holding a large fish, an upside-down photo (it just makes you look tech challenged), an odd shaped photo you obviously cut someone out of but their hand or arm remains on your shoulder (Who is this? An ex?).

“Fluent in Sarcasm”

If you have any headlines such as the above, remove them! Start with a positive headline – remember that tone can never be heard online – and while you may mean this as being hysterically funny/witty, it most likely will come across as a negative. Once you meet in real life, then let your humor flow!

No Complaints

These can be benign comments like, “My friends think I’m crazy to be online dating because….,” well, you are! It can come across as insecure, and the person reading this will not find this a turn-on. After all, they are doing it too. In the past two years, 1 of 3 married couples met online!

A Political Rant

Not the right place to air your political thoughts! Each site/app will have a question about this and a simple checked box for Independent, Liberal, Conservative etc. is appropriate.

Lies

I know I mention this constantly, but taking your age from 63 to 55 just starts you out with a dishonest relationship. Same goes for height. If you are 5’9”, don’t exaggerate to 5’11”. If you are a few pounds overweight, of course that’s ok – just show flattering photos of you and always a full body shot!

A Generic Opening Line

Many singles never get past the first line on an online dating profile. A line such as “Attractive, Funny, Kind” is a fast swipe left. The best help I can give you on writing an online dating profile is to start with a bang about you!

“Key Lime Cheesecake Ice Cream from Handel’s” certainly made an impression on me. This person, a 66-year-old man, eats and named an extremely specific flavor. He made me smile with that first line, and I read his whole profile!

Another example: I was working with a client this morning, looking at some men I thought she would like, and we both laughed so hard at one man’s opening comment about how intimidating IKEA was – it was cleverly written, and simply different!

Yes, she is pursuing him!

Bonus Tip: Always use spell check or editor before you copy and paste your profile online. This is a first impression of you – not casual texting with your friends who already know and love you!

Which one of these do you currently have on your online dating profile? Do you think they have hindered your ability to find a quality man to date? What will you choose to change about your online dating profile after reading this article?

Garcelle Beauvais’ Red Leather Tie Neck Dress

Garcelle Beauvais’ Red Leather Tie Neck Dress

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Season 11 Episode 12 Fashion

Garcelle Beauvais’ looked red hot in her red leather tie neck dress. Which probably came in handy in the “freezing” California weather. With the chilly weather and the Christmas decorations it had me all excited for the holiday season. That’s a long ways away, but it doesn’t hurt to start shopping for gifts. That’s why I’m getting a head start and getting a Style Stealer of Garcelle’s dress as a gift to myself.

5 Ways That Technology Can Help Fight Social Isolation Among Seniors

technology helps battle social isolation

In the last few weeks, we have seen numerous articles about social isolation. Check my Twitter feed! The net-net is that, while things may be opening up, social contact does not necessarily alleviate social isolation. And those most vulnerable have deep emotional and mental issues to deal with coming out of the pandemic (if indeed we are coming out!).

In March of 2020, businesses and schools scrambled to shift to virtual environments with the expectation that the Covid-19 outbreak would only last for a few weeks. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

Most Americans spent the next year primarily indoors with very limited contact with friends, family and coworkers to slow the spread of the virus. The social distancing measures necessitated by the pandemic resulted in many people experiencing a profound sense of loneliness and isolation – perhaps none more so than the older adult population.

Social Isolation Has Always Been Around for Older Adults

Even prior to the pandemic, an estimated 25% of seniors were socially isolated and 43% were lonely. According to a 2020 study from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, nearly a fourth of older adults are considered to be socially isolated.

Social isolation among seniors is incredibly common and dangerous. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, social isolation is associated with a 50% increased risk of dementia as well as higher rates of depression, anxiety and suicide. Loneliness is also associated with a 29% increased risk of heart disease and 26% increased risk of stroke.

Due to the adverse mental and physical health impacts of loneliness, combatting social isolation among seniors is essential to their overall wellbeing. Fortunately, the pandemic greatly increased the use of social technologies, many of which will be used widely even as the world slowly returns to normal.

These technologies are great tools for combatting social isolation among seniors who are not able to connect with their social circle in person regularly.

Technologies that Battle Social Isolation

I recently spoke with Aisha Parillon, Senior Director of Senior Centers at JASA. Their agency serves 40,000 older adults annually in New York City, providing critical services, interventions and partnerships that promote aging with a purpose and provide autonomy for older adults.

Whether you’re an older adult, caregiver or generally interested in fighting this issue, she suggested five ways that technology can be leveraged to fight loneliness:

Staying Connected with Loved Ones

Technologies like Zoom and FaceTime are great tools for helping older adults easily stay in touch with relatives and friends they are not regularly able to see.

During the pandemic, these tools were critical for staying connected with loved ones and can now be used to ensure older adults with physical disabilities and/or those who live far away from family can stay social without having to travel.

Telehealth

During the pandemic, the number of older adults using telehealth services jumped from 4% as of May 2019 to up to 26% between March and June of 2020. Virtual doctor’s appointments are a powerful tool for combatting the negative mental and physical impacts of social isolation by empowering seniors to connect regularly with their healthcare providers.

Virtual Senior Programming

Virtual activities allow older adults, regardless of physical ability and means, to remain active and engaged by participating in new hobbies at home.

During the pandemic, organizations like JASA and Sage Stream provided diverse programming ranging from exercise, art and cooking classes virtually. For many seniors, this type of programming was essential to fighting loneliness in periods of lockdown.

Healthy Aging Technologies

Tech companies are beginning to focus more and more on developing new products to promote healthy aging – according to CNBC, the active-aging industry in the U.S. is expected to triple by 2022 to nearly $30 billion.

Many of these devices focus on combatting social isolation and the health risks associated with it by alerting seniors to check in with family, take prescribed medications and prompting them to get out for walks. As these devices are less mainstream than technologies like Zoom, investment in tech support and training will be needed for the benefits to be tangible.

Social Media

Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter can be excellent tools for seniors to stay connected with the changing world around them from the comfort of their homes. These platforms can empower older adults to stay updated on cultural shifts and current events, in turn giving them a sense of connectedness with the world and their peers.

What’s Yet Needed

While these various uses for technology have the potential to change aging for the better, too many seniors do not have the proper training or connectivity necessary to use these tools. We must invest in getting older adults connected and trained on how to use these new tools and technologies.

At a policy level, this means expanding the Emergency Broadband Benefit Program and other supplemental programs to help seniors meet the costs of these technologies, as well as increasing funding for community-based organizations that can provide trainings for older adults.

At an individual level, people with older adults in their lives can help by showing them how to use different technologies. Through increased funding for access to and education around technology, more seniors will be able to use these tools to lead healthier, happier and more social lives.

What technologies did you use to combat social isolation during the various stages of lockdown? If you have older adults in your life, how did you help them stay connected? Is social isolation a serious issue in your community? Please share your thoughts.
