We love a two-for-one shot with beauty and fashion on our Bravo shows. Because not only do we get the ‘fit but we also get the face! Just like we do here with Larsa Pippen on #RHOM tonight in her pink jumpsuit while using her compact for a little touch up at the table. Leaving us doing a little touch up of our own by adding both a new compact and jumpsuit to our collection.

Sincerely Stylish,

Jess

Quick and Elegant Summer Makeup Ideas

Quick and Elegant Summer Makeup Ideas

Summer makeup is about shine, gloss, and glimmer. Having said that, how do you look elegant as a woman over 60 when anything shiny drips down to your belly button, glimmer sits in fine lines, and gloss lasts about 30 seconds?

Today I am joined by my good friend Sandy, and we will show you how to create a quick summer makeup look without anything drooping or washing out. We’ll focus on achieving a dewy glow, natural brows with a twist, a pop of colorful liner, and youthful, shiny lips that make a statement.

Let’s dive into a fun, practical tutorial that will help you look radiant without spending hours in front of the mirror.

Fresh Dewy Summer Glow

Nothing says summer like glowing skin. To get that fresh, dewy look, start with a lightweight, luminous serum-based foundation like PrimePrometics CC Cream. It gives your skin a natural radiance without feeling heavy or cakey – perfect for hot days or when you just want to look effortlessly beautiful.

Apply your base using your fingers, a brush, or a damp sponge, focusing on the t-zone and blending outward for a natural glow without looking too made-up. You want that, “I woke up like this” glow while diminishing any discolorations and darkness around the eye area.

Pro Tip: To amp up the radiance, dab a little highlighter on your cupid’s bow, top of your cheek bones, and brow bones. Keep it light – too much highlighter is, well, too much.

Natural, Minimalist Brows with a Twist

Brows are the frame of your face, and even a simple brow can make a big difference. On Sandy, I used a soft brow pencil called Silver Queen to fill in the sparse spots. The goal here was to add just enough definition to lift her face and open her eyes.

Then for a youthful, fresh look, I brushed her brows upward with Silver Queen Brow Gel. This helps to hold everything in place and can be used alone, without a pencil, if you already have relatively thick brows. For even quicker application, only fill in the outer edges of your brows to softly open up your face.

Fun Tip: Think of your brows as the “icing on the cake” – simple but essential!

Colorful Eyeliner for a Playful Summer Vibe

If you are used to using the inevitable brown eyeliner, then maybe turn up the dial with color! Bright, colorful eyeliner adds a playful, modern twist that instantly makes your eyes pop. Pick a shade like Mulberry, Copper, or Emerald – whatever makes you smile!

For Sandy, I lined her upper lash line with Sapphire, a water-repellant pencil, staying close to her lash roots and making the outer edge a little thicker for effect. Then I used a blender brush to soften it down for a more modern look.

Quick tip: I wanted a very soft line under Sandy’s eyes, so I dipped a damp angled brush into a blue/gray eyeshadow and lightly applied it.

Try Colorful Mascara

Lashes are always in, but for this summer, try a few layers of thickening colorful mascara to really bring out your eyes. The trick to doing this well, is to keep the mascara to the top lashes only, as this will give your eyes a lift and look really fresh. On Sandy, I added two layers of Navy PrimePrometics Mascara. She was surprised that she liked navy mascara and ended up ordering some!

You can also try Mulberry, a pretty dark plum, or even Dark Brown if you are very fair. Colored mascara adds a subtle nuance to makeup that I adore.

Tip: For a night out, try adding single false lashes as opposed to a strip. If applied only on the outer eye edge, it can add an elegance that is fun for a special event and a night out.

Youthful, Shiny Lips

Summer is the perfect time to rock a bright, bold, and shiny lip. PrimePrometics has come out with five new lip plumping balm shades that are amazing for the summer. Shades include Soft Petal (I used this on Sandy), Silky Rose, Velvet Rose, Nude Glow and Cherry Noir.

Outline your lips with either a matching or neutral lip liner for extra definition and to prevent feathering. For longer wear, blot with a tissue and reapply as needed.

Pro Tip: For an extra polished look, dab a little concealer around your lips after applying lipstick. This sharpens the edges and makes your color stand out even more.

Don’t Sweat It

And there you have it – a quick, elegant summer makeup routine that’s perfect for women over 60 who want to look fresh, youthful, and radiant in no time at all. The best part? These tips are super easy to incorporate into your routine, and they work beautifully for daytime brunches, summer parties, or just enjoying the sunshine.

Remember, beauty over 60 is all about feeling confident and having fun with your look. Don’t be afraid to try new colors, experiment with what makes you happy, and most importantly – enjoy the process!

Finding Calm in the Storm: Holistic Strategies for Parents Over 60 Supporting Adult Children with Emotional Issues

Finding Calm in the Storm Holistic Strategies for Parents Over 60 Supporting Adult Children with Emotional Issues

Faith, a caring mother in her 60s, faced one of the hardest challenges of her life. Her 51-year-old daughter and 18-year-old grandson were living with her. Although Faith loved them deeply, their presence created ongoing stress and constant conflicts in her home.

Over time, these tensions significantly affected Faith’s health, causing dangerously high blood pressure and chronic anxiety. Her doctor became increasingly concerned, warning her that her health could suffer even more serious consequences if things didn’t change.

After months of internal struggle, Faith made the extremely difficult decision to legally evict her daughter and grandson. Although this choice deeply hurt her heart, Faith recognized it as essential for her own health and well-being. (You can read Faith’s complete story here).

Faith’s story isn’t uncommon. Many parents over 60 find themselves burdened with emotional stress and health issues because of their adult children’s emotional struggles. Understanding these challenges, adopting holistic strategies can significantly help older adults improve their emotional strength, mental clarity, physical health, and spiritual peace.

Here are some strategies inspired by Faith’s experience:

Emotional Wellness: Embrace Compassionate Acceptance

Example

When you notice feelings of worry arising, observe them without engaging deeply. You might say, “I notice I’m feeling worried, but my child’s life choices aren’t mine to control. I can support them without taking responsibility for their decisions.”

Explanation

Observing your emotions without judgment or trying to justify them reduces their intensity and helps you stay calm. This mindful observation prevents overwhelming feelings and promotes clearer, more compassionate responses.

Mental Wellness: Cultivate Mindfulness and Positive Thinking

Example

Each morning, take just 10 minutes to sit quietly and focus on slow, deep breathing. You might say calming phrases to yourself like, “I am safe,” or “This stress will pass.”

Explanation

Practicing mindfulness helps you slow down anxious thoughts and feel more peaceful. Regular mindfulness can sharpen your mental clarity, reduce stress, and improve your overall emotional health, giving you a stronger foundation to handle daily challenges.

Physical Wellness: Prioritize Your Health

Example

Make simple daily routines, like walking around your neighborhood or attending a gentle yoga class at a community center. Even a brief 15-minute walk can noticeably improve your mood and energy.

Dietary Example

Focus on eating balanced meals rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. For instance, include leafy greens, berries, nuts, and lean meats or fish regularly.

Explanation

Regular physical activity and good nutrition significantly improve your physical health. Exercise reduces stress hormones, boosts energy levels, and enhances emotional resilience. A healthy diet provides essential nutrients that support overall health, increase energy, and strengthen the immune system, helping you feel better physically and emotionally.

Spiritual Wellness: Strengthen Your Connection

Example

Spend a few minutes each day quietly reflecting in prayer, meditation, or simply enjoying the peaceful sounds and sights of nature. You might also attend spiritual gatherings or services that align with your beliefs.

Explanation

Strengthening your spiritual connection provides inner comfort, promotes peace, and helps you maintain perspective during tough times. Believing in a higher power or greater purpose can offer profound emotional support and acceptance, guiding you gently through life’s difficulties.

Relationship Boundaries: Compassionate Detachment

Example

Have clear, kind conversations with your adult child. You might say, “I love you and I care deeply about you, but there are certain things you must learn to handle on your own.”

Explanation

Setting compassionate boundaries protects your emotional and physical health. It also encourages your adult child to develop personal responsibility, become more independent, and learn from their own experiences without relying solely on your support.

Seek Comprehensive Support

Example

Join a local support group for parents facing similar challenges with their adult children. Sharing your experiences and listening to others can help you feel less alone and more understood.

Explanation

Professional counseling and support groups offer valuable emotional relief and practical guidance. They connect you with other parents who understand exactly what you’re going through. This supportive network provides comfort, encouragement, and practical tips to handle challenging situations effectively.

Build New Interests and Activities

Example

Try exploring hobbies you’ve always wanted to pursue, like gardening, painting, crafting, or volunteering in your community.

Explanation

Engaging in enjoyable activities helps redirect your focus positively and reduces stress. Pursuing new interests provides personal fulfillment and helps you maintain a balanced life outside of family worries.

Maintain Social Connections

Example

Schedule regular coffee dates, phone calls, or social outings with friends or community groups.

Explanation

Staying socially connected reduces feelings of loneliness and isolation, enhancing your emotional well-being. Friends and community activities provide valuable emotional support and enjoyable distractions that contribute significantly to your overall happiness and resilience.

A Transformative Path Forward

By incorporating these holistic strategies into their life, parents like Faith can significantly enhance their emotional resilience, physical health, mental clarity, and spiritual peace. This balanced approach helps parents over 60 manage the complex emotional relationships with their adult children, ultimately leading to healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives. Remember, your wellbeing is vital – not only for yourself but also to create healthier dynamics within your family and your community.

Beyond the Cute: How to Choose a Dog Breed That Fits Your Lifestyle (9 Questions You Need to Ask Yourself)

Beyond the Cute How to Choose a Dog Breed That Fits Your Lifestyle (9 Questions You Need to Ask Yourself)

If you love dogs, you’ll understand how strongly I feel about the responsibility that comes with dog ownership.

The last thing you want to do is bring home a puppy just because it has a cute face. Yes, I understand. Puppies are ADORABLE. However, they also come with a unique set of needs, characteristics, and personalities that may not be the right fit for your lifestyle.

Are you considering getting a dog? Whether it’s a puppy or a full-grown rescue, it’s important to do a little soul-searching before committing. Want to learn more? Keep reading!

Caution – You Can’t Mold a Dog to Fit Your Lifestyle!

I’ve known people who have chosen dogs on a whim, only to discover that the dog needs more exercise than the person can provide. I’ve also had friends adopt dogs with severe separation anxiety (even though that person worked all day), only to have to rehome the dog later.

It’s not that these people didn’t have good intentions. They simply didn’t take the time to research the breed. As a result, they wound up with under-exercised dogs full of anxiety issues and behavioural problems.

Let’s Dig Deep and Do Some Soul-Searching

There’s a lot to consider when choosing a new pet, and it’s important to do a little soul-searching to ensure you find the right match. There’s so much to think about before bringing a dog home!

There are no “right’ or “wrong” answers to the following questions. I’ve designed them as a way to open your mind to dog ownership in ways that might not have occurred to you before.

Remember, at the end of the day, all anybody wants is a happy and healthy dog. The best way to do that is to make sure you’re ready for the responsibility, no matter the breed.

#1: Are You Willing to Take the Dog Out Early in the Morning or Late at Night?

This is an important consideration if you live in an apartment or condo. Unless you can train your dog to go on a pee pad on the balcony, you’ll have to bring your dog outside.

Depending on your geographic location, that can mean taking your dog outside on cold nights with slippery sidewalks.

#2: Do You Have Other Pets?

It’s important to consider the comfort of your current pets before bringing a new dog into your home. They may need to be introduced gradually.

#3: Are You Allowed to Have Pets in Your Residence?

Not all apartment buildings or condominiums allow dogs. If they do, they may have a size or breed restriction. If you own your home, you can do what you like!

#4: Are You an Experienced Dog Owner?

Some dogs are much harder to train than others. Look for breeds that are easy to train unless you’re confident in your skills.

#5: Do You Have Someone Who Can Take Your Dog in Case Anything Happens to You?

It’s important to have a plan for any eventuality. If you buy a purebred dog, there could be a clause in the contract that says the dog must go back to the breeder if you can no longer care for it.

#6: Are You Prepared for Unexpected Vet Bills and Pet Expenses?

Dogs are expensive, even without unexpected vet bills. Toys, crates, food, pet insurance, doggy daycare, deworming, tick medications, and grooming are just a handful of expenses you’ll encounter.

#7: How Do You Feel About Fur All Over Your House (and Clothes, and Furniture)?

If you have allergies or a strong aversion to a house full of dog fur, consider a hypoallergenic dog breed. Otherwise, let the fur fly and have fun!

#8: Can You Provide the Exercise and Mental Stimulation a Dog Needs?

Most dogs need a minimum of 60 minutes of exercise a day. Toy breeds need much less, and high-energy breeds (like my 14-pound Parson Russell Terrier) have higher demands.

#9: Do You Know the Difference Between a Working Dog, a Sporting Dog, a Herding Dog, Terriers, and Other Categories?

I only mention this because a dog will do what it was bred for.

For example, if you bring home a working dog but fail to give it meaningful play, mental stimulation, and daily exercise, there’s a good chance the dog will tear up your house and yard.

Are You Ready for the Commitment?

Dogs are amazing creatures with unique needs. They just want to love and be loved. Of course, love isn’t enough. Bringing a dog into your life is a lifelong promise to provide consistent care, attention, exercise, training, and medical support.

It means accepting the good days with the challenging ones, from puppyhood through their senior years.
