Money makes the world go round. We’ve all heard this. But is it true? And what about love? Does love make the world go round? By themselves, neither money nor love defines who we are or our world. What truly makes the world go round, however, are stories about love and money.
We all have our own stories about love and money.
If your stories about love and money are creating more fear and anxiety than they are producing joy and fulfilment, it’s time to get rid of these stories and start telling some new ones.
This article and accompanying video are part of a new series titled “The Invisible Customer with All the Money®”.In this series, we will focus on how we, as women over 60, can begin telling ourselves a new and better story about what we can be, do, and experience through self-love.

When You’re Convinced, You’re Convincing
From the time we could read and were allowed to watch television, we have been inundated with stories that there is not enough love, money, good health, pleasure, happiness, safety, and even basic needs, such as food, clothing, and shelter to go around.
Scarcity is at the forefront of the stories we consume. For most people of our generation, the majority of these stories are coming from the media.
The media doesn’t necessarily tell us the truth. It reflects our beliefs back to us with endless stories of scarcity, strife, fear, and unrest. We buy into these stories because we are already convinced that scarcity is real.
Convinced there is not enough love or money to go around, we become incredibly convincing in telling ourselves and other people stories about how we can’t live the life we desire because we cannot change the outside world.
That’s true, we can’t change the outside world based on these stories. But there is a way to change the outside world, and it begins within each of us.
Change the Way You Look at Things
Bestselling author Dr. Wayne Dyer once wrote, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” Nowhere is this truer than telling yourself a new, more empowering story about love and money after 60.
These stories and the beliefs that frame them will not change on their own. You will want to look within yourself and identify the source of your beliefs about love and money.
Once your stories are acknowledged and you understand them, you can change them.
13 Steps to Eradicate Stories of Scarcity
As women over 60, we have lived through varying social climates and personal experiences. Therefore, reshaping these narratives can be deeply healing and immensely empowering. But it can also be challenging at first.
To help you eradicate stories of scarcity, particularly those focused on love and money, here’s a 13-step approach I’ve personally used for myself:
Get to the Root
Understand and acknowledge the source of your beliefs and stories about scarcity. Were they influenced by childhood experiences, societal norms, or past traumas? And where are they being reinforced in your life today?
Reframe Beliefs
Question and challenge limiting beliefs that suggest there’s limited love or not enough financial opportunities due to age.
Empowering Affirmations
Collect positive affirmations about having abundance in love and wealth. Also, write some for yourself and be sure to say these out loud to yourself.
Visualize Abundance
Regularly visualize scenarios where you’re experiencing abundance in love and finances. This is far from wishful thinking. It’s about tapping into the power of your imagination and allowing yourself to reshape how you perceive and experience your innermost desires.
Financial Literacy
Educate yourself with knowledge about current financial tools, investments, and opportunities. Also, seek professional guidance on this as well.
Learn About Self-Love
Engage in workshops, professional therapy or online courses that focus on self-love, relationships, and provide practical tools and guidance for navigating love in later stages of life.
Express Gratitude
Focus on the love and money you currently have, no matter how minor they may seem. Expressing gratitude for your current blessings can shift the focus from scarcity to abundance.
Create New Experiences
Actively seek opportunities to engage in new financial ventures or to meet new people and expand your horizons in the areas of love.
Celebrate Wins
No matter how small, celebrate every success or positive experience related to love and money.
Connect with Community
Surround yourself with people who hold abundant perspectives about love and money.
Journal Your Journey
Journal moments where you felt love and abundance or any shifts in your beliefs about love and money.
Limit Exposure to Negativity
Curate media consumption. Avoid books, shows, or people that tell stories of scarcity, especially concerning aging, love, and finances.
Invest in Self-Worth
Engage in activities that boost your self-esteem and worth.
With a loving focus, inner resilience, and being dedicated to applying these steps, you can tell a new, empowering story about love and money.
I invite you to join me in the video at the top of this article where I share five additional steps and ten affirmations to help you integrate what you are learning.
