Natural-Looking Brow Pomades to Shape, Define & Set

Whether worn alone or on top of your favorite brow pencil, brow pomades are an excellent way to shade, contour, and set your brows for all-day wear that won’t budge, smear, or transfer. Unfortunately, while brow pomades can frame your face and keep them in place for hours, there not exactly the most foolproof and easy-to-apply formula. They tend to be on the waxy or creamier side in terms of consistency, making them a bit messier and a little less forgiving if you make a mistake or overextend the line and shape a bit too much.

Aside from the increased potential for mishaps, using a brow pomade can also leave you looking with chunky, over-the-top, and crunchy looking brows, as opposed to wispy, brushed-up, and natural-looking. The key to avoiding these dilemmas is the amount of product you apply. The right amount of pomade will coat just the right amount of your natural brows, allowing you to define, fill-in, and shape without accidentally going overboard. Of course, as with any brow products, finding the right shade that matches your natural undertone (and is a half or full shades darker) is also important to get the look right as well. Scroll through to check out some of our favorite hassle-free and long-wearing brow pomades to try for yourself.

Walmart Promises to Finally Stop Locking Up “Multicultural” Products

It’s about time. Walmart announced it would stop locking up Black hair products, or beauty items they deem “multicultural.” The report first came from CBS Denver reporter Tori Mason, who tweeted that Walmart emailed her directly to say it would “discontinue places these items in cases.” This came after the retailer has been under fire for discriminating against people of color, locking only these products behind glass in 4,700 stores nationwide.

That means, if you need a deep conditioner or edge control, you’d have to call a store associate, who would unlock the case and take the product upfront to the register for you. This can be a pretty humiliating experience for all involved. Walmart spokesman Lorenzo Lopez told NBC News that the company is “sensitive to the issue and understands the concerns” and would be implementing the change in policy “as soon as possible.”

“As a retailer serving millions of customers every day from diverse backgrounds, Walmart does not tolerate discrimination of any kind,” said Lopez. “Like other retailers, the cases were put in place to deter shoplifters from some products such as electronics, automotive, cosmetics and other personal care products.”

The excuse from retailers was always that these products are stolen more than others, just like many pricey razors are also locked up. Walmart confirmed to NBC News that the decision to place certain hair and beauty products in locked cases was based on theft data, and that it varied by location. Though it wouldn’t share this data.

Walmart isn’t the only retailer to lock up these products. Major chains such as Walgreens and CVS have been accused of the same thing. Let’s hope Walmart’s change will push others to follow suit.

Leah McSweeney’s Purple Velour Hoodie on WWHL

Watch What Happens Live Fashion June 11, 2020

Leah McSweeney made a total statement on last night’s episode of Watch What Happens Live, and we’re not just talking about her now infamous “Bl*w Me necklace,” but also with her purple velour hoodie sweatshirt which is by a brand we literally haven’t seen pop up since the early 2000s. And tbh, we love the fact that she decided to throw things back to a much better time when we were just living The Simple Life Life in the Fab Lane.

Fashionably,

Faryn

Sephora Is the First Company to Pledge Carrying 15 Percent Black-Owned Brands

Just a week ago the company announced a partnership with the National Black Justice Coalition, raising more than 1 million dollars to empower Black LGBTQ+ people. Now, the retailer is taking inclusivity one step further by joining the Black-owned brands pledge, called the 15 Percent Pledge. “We recognize how important it is to represent Black businesses and communities, and we must do better. So, we’re starting now,” states the Instagram post announcing the promise.

The 15 Percent Pledge was started by Brooklyn-based designer Aurora James, founder of Brother Vellies. She called on retailers, specifically Sephora, Target and Whole Foods, to dedicate 15 percent of its shelf space to Black-owned brands. Sephora is the first and only retailer so far as to join the pledge. It also plans to use the Accelerate program, which helps cultivate female founders, to now focus on women of color.

James took to Instagram to “commend” Sephora for the “historic” move. “With unparalleled influence and power, not only in the beauty industry but in retail at large, Sephora is making a historic contribution to the fight against systemic racism, economic inequality and discrimination by taking this Pledge,” wrote James. “We commend their early leadership and look forward to working with them on their accountability and commitment as we join together in the mission to put billions back into the Black community.”

This brings us back to another movement. Sharon Chuter, founder and CEO of Uoma Beauty, launched the #PullUporShutUp challenge to hold corporate brands accountable. Sephora revealed it has 14 percent Black representation across the USA and 6 percent in leadership positions. It promised to “elevate Black employees and people of color” to leadership roles going forward.

Hydrating Facial Oils to Add to Your Double Cleanse Routine

When it comes to washing your face, adding oil to your routine may feel pretty counterintuitive—if you remember from science class, oil and water don’t mix, right? While this still rings true, if you’ve upgraded to a double cleansing routine in the evenings, using a simple foam cleanser to remove all of the makeup, skincare (all which likely contain some oil), and dirt and grime accumulated throughout the day often doesn’t suffice. We’ve all been there, when post-clean, you swipe your freshly-washed skin with a toning pad only to find extra debris and makeup residue left over.

The best way to ensure you’re getting the deepest clean possible (and not accidentally sleeping in your makeup unknowingly) is to use a cleansing oil followed with a normal lathering cleanser as the second step. Trust us, this two-step process may feel a little high maintenance, but it only takes an extra minute or so and make a major difference in your skin. While those with oily, blemish-prone, and combination skin types may feel like washing their face with a straight-up to be downright daunting, fear not—you’ll be following up with your regular face wash, which will effectively remove the oil residue and won’t clog your pores. Ready to take your evening skincare routine to the next level? We’ve outlined a few of our favorite cleansing oils to give you the deep clean of your dreams.
